Texty the Bard

@textualdeviance.bsky.social

Democrat & Social Justice Bard. Queer/Enby/Spoonie/Neurospicy. Gen Xer & PNW snob. I write SFF, sing, cuddle my spouse/kids/cats & swear a lot. Anti-Democrat BS or AI slop = block. Beware: I come with receipts. WA Rebel Bird pic: Rebecca LaPointe.

Voting for Harris was the bare minimum of doing the right thing. Doing so doesn't absolve anyone of having to take responsibility for spreading anti-Democrat bullshit that pushed other voters to vote third party or abstain.

If anyone had any doubt that Kshama Sawant was anything other than a narcissistic attention addict, last night's classless display should have removed that doubt. What an asshole.

It gets an actual chuckle out of me seeing people on here say "now the TRUE test is whether the shitlibs can live up to their own words and line up behind El-Sayed!" only for Stevens, Whitmer, every prominent Michigan Dem, the DSCC, etc. to have endorsed El-Sayed before they can finish the sentence.

I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?

Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?

Oh, good. Both of Adam Smith's weirdo challengers are getting like 10% of the vote. Personally, I think the seat could use someone with a little more fire, but the people who keep challenging him from the left are just silly.

It says a LOT that the anti-Democrat left is more focused on unseating "establishment" Democrat electeds than they are on getting Republicans out of power. This is like high-school kids getting mad about who gets to be prom queen while there's a fucking war going on. FOCUS, folks.

Rick, you should be utterly ashamed of yourself and retract this immediately if you have any sense of decency. It is spitting in the face of every good man and woman who has ever fought for this country to suggest combat service regularly turns people into Graham Platner.

A watershed piece. America will have have a very hard time becoming less imperialist as long as combat service is sentimentalized and fetishized, when it actually tends to turn men into broken, hateful people, and helps make things like like Trumpism happen. www.newyorker.com/news/the-pol...

And after a moment of consideration, a corollary: anyone in the MAHA movement *right now*, even IF they only theoretically believe in the common ground, however unlikely, has already expressed a clear willingness to cross unacceptable lines (vaccines, protecting trans people, etc.) for those ends!

when kamala harris campains with one of the few republicans that impeached trump its surrendering to republicans but when bernie says trump has a point on immagration or aoc says she works with maha its completely fine (yes everyone has iffy stuff on their record even jon ossof has made mitakes )

That said, let us take a moment to thank our Bluesky Trans and Furry Elders for freaking out Jack Dorsey so much he bolted and left us this nice social media playground, taking most of his crypto chuds with him. We thank you for your service.

I’m convinced this has a lot to do with the freakout over trans girl athletes. Guys think anyone who has ever had a penis is a cross between Michael Jordan and the Hulk, because they like believing that.

it's interesting how many men get satisfaction out of knowing that other men can beat elite female athletes. like ok, maybe the best high school boys team in the country can beat a WNBA team, but YOU can't

That seems like the essential paradox of leftists in America. Either we suck and deserve the worst, so you should sit back and let Trump win. Or, we deserve better than any of the choices, so you should sit back and let Trump win. It’s funny how there’s never an option where you try to stop Trump.

There is a lot to worry about in terms of what the last ten+ years have done to governance in this country, but one of my bigger fears is that people - even ones ostensibly on our side - have forgotten that Congress isn’t just a fucking reality show with people being shitheads on Twitter all day
