Review of Sentencing Guidelines is needed. We lock up many more people than European nations. Community sentences that preserve jobs and relationships should be the norm for non violent offenders.

There really are only three choices: * Release prisoners. * Lock prisoners up in each of our downstairs loos. * Build prisons. The third one takes time. The fourth option, of course, is to recalibrate what a prison is and why we send people there.
If Norris has the time or the inclination, the real reform should be sentencing that is readily understood. Not ‘serve X proportion’. Just let the Judge spell out: a) How long should this person sit in a cell? b) How long should they then be supervised on licence?
I can’t believe ‘here’s your prison sentence, you will serve half, but your co-defendant who got a bit longer for something a bit worse will do two-thirds, but one of you can go home early on curfew and that one will now do a third and the other a half’ hasn’t worked out for us.
Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

Reform can start lecturing on decency when they get their own house in order. Until then Rob, sit down and be quiet.
Left: Robert Jenrick says Zack Polanski should have resigned for sharing a collab post, adding a decent person would apologise Right: When a Reform councillor shared a death threat against a Labour MP, Starmer asked Nigel to apologise, he refused Using Jenrick's logic, Farage isn't a decent person
When the UK has a Mediterranean climate, when the Isle of Wight is renowned for its olive groves, the world will have changed in such a way there won't be much to enjoy. Many areas that export food, that feed the world, will have failed. Many people will have to leave areas that are unliveable.
Yeah, the Mediterranean is burning right now...
Basing new RAF firefighting helicopters 2,000 miles away at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus shows a total failure in domestic priority during a UK firewave. When climate-driven wildfires rage at home, why are key aerial assets permanently stationed abroad? Are we underestimating this? #ClimateCrisis
UK at risk of 'firewave' – but RAF's firefighting helicopters are 2,000 miles away

This is such a widespread experience, some politicians understand this, but there's no concerted effort to bring about change. The housing projects of the past might not have been the prettiest, but it's that drive we need. Most politicians don't seem to understand the urgency or importance. 1/2
The new(ish), young mayor of Munich just created a programme that converts the vast empty office spaces in this incredibly expensive city into residences. In cities, that could be a way forward.
Yep! Tax the banks & bring in a #WindfallTax for them & any company making excess profits. Why should the fatcats & shareholders have it all?
The UK's four biggest banks are set to rake in profits of around £55billion this year. Equivalent to around £1,750 every second "High interest rates have been a boon for banks but have meant mortgage misery and higher bills for the rest of us." - Paul Nowak, TUC TAX THE BANKS! #WindfallTaxNow ⬅️
It’s the sort of collaborative politics we need. Well done @eddavey.libdems.org.uk and @andyburnham.bsky.social

He thinks the UK is a prime suspect whereas he WAS a prime suspect but is now a convicted criminal with 34 felony fraud convictions. So he can sit the fuck right down .
Trump: "They're coming from Africa, they're coming from South America, they're coming from different parts of Asia, and they're invading Europe. They're invading Europe! It's an invasion. And the UK is a prime suspect."
Jason is the youngest Black professor in Cambridge’s history. Rightwing newspapers are trying to smear him with fake accusations of plagiarism. We can't let them. Stand up to their hate and division by adding your name. goodlawproject.org/s/3ec4c0

Yep. I agree. I still agree. And I’ll agree tomorrow.
The Telegraph really does have the biggest collection of Toff morons who didn't have the skills to do anything useful in life, so were gifted columns doing really shit opinion pieces. My biggest disappointment about this rag is they have a really decent Midlands football reporter.
What utter nonsense to declare defeat in a war we never actually fought. The UK arguing over net zero isn’t the same thing as the world making a serious, coordinated effort to cut emissions. You can’t claim the strategy failed when you spent most of the time refusing to implement it.
Haven't seen the original Tweet before, proper racist and they didn't sack him
