nice to see an attempt at analysis. it’s going to be tough to thread the needle on yes on renewables, no on data centers when it’s the exact same people opposing both. not sure the analysis is that great: it suggests the goal is to make people feel Listened To and then do the same thing anyway
same tbh. there were a number of bad situations I was in but I actually think it would have been way worse otherwise. that said, today's internet is pretty different. breaking the holds of major social media companies will be important for the health of our cybercommons.

as someone building a MUD with these tools this is so funny and insane. like our game is very old, we have custom game and scripting engines which are pretty complex and powerful, and even when we're refactoring huge pieces of sloppy 30 year old C code we have a hard time hitting a $20/mo cap.

These can be absolutely massive psychological experiences, and very important to understand, and have many negative consequences for our lives, and it's STILL. NOT. ADDICTION.

there were definitely early focused efforts to shift public opinion but they were more focused on copyright maximalism. karla ortiz raised ~200k from small artist communities for copyright lobbyists specifically, for example, and popularized a lot of that sentiment/fears in those spaces.

I've met multiple Spanish speakers in Portland that rely on their phones to translate when speaking to people who do not speak Spanish or to translate English text. Normies are already embracing these tools bc they're useful, I think it's actually increasingly fringe not to.
aly@aly.codes · 4d agoI am routinely surprised by people who do not think live translation, semantic search, and computer vision are big deals for non-knowledge workers. These just functionally did not exist 10 years ago.
North Horn has been fun as fuck. They really tuned most of the pain points from South Horn well. Does feel a bit frenetic at times. The area under the island is maybe one of the freakiest areas in an MMO in my memory. Up there with Karazhan Crypts for ambience, to me. honestly flawless.
