Zee is having me read The Song of Roland in the members feed. I’m so upset that I cant do a convincing Charlie Day voice because oh my god, this guy is Charlie. But with a sword.
Turns out I've been doing this all wrong. Instead of researching the cultural significance of the story of the marten and the partridge... I could have just had GPT put "1106 Partridge Roadkill dinner at Bec" in a nicely sorted spreadsheet and called it a day.
"History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts" I remain astounded by how loud and wrong people are about what history actually is.
Well, thank goodness they kept this information to themselves for five years so that he could go on to continue those business practices from the White House. Great job, Capital One.
Capital One says it closed hundreds of Trump's bank accounts in 2021 'for anti-money laundering reasons'
Capital One says it closed hundreds of accounts associated with President Trump and his businesses in 2021 "for anti-money laundering reasons," according to a filing.

The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.
He’s going to do some unspeakable things to roadkill after this disaster.
RFK Jr yelling at Dana Bash sounds like a rabid dog barking
Me: And I’m gonna call it At Anselm’s Bec and Call, because Anselm is in Bec. Get it?! Zee:
Apparently, there’s a lot of protein in lotus flowers.
The new episode is live. We're at war... so, naturally, our scribes are talking about comets and roadkill. Glad to know the press hasn't changed. www.thebritishhistorypodcast.com/504-at-ansle...
After reading medieval primary sources for this long, I think I finally understand why the White House press corps are supine weirdos. You cant be near the freaks in power without it rubbing off on you, and if you’re somehow resistant they wont let you into the room in the first place.
the written record of antiquity, for reasons I hope are obvious, over represents the blinkered moral perspectives of that day's most powerful people. you should take the care with generalizing from their opinions that you'd want a foreigner to take if a tech CEO was asked about your country's morals
one tendency that comes out about period films is the insistence that XYZ moral thought would not have occurred to anyone in the ancient world. to be sure there are moral innovations and changes but the existence of thorough dissatisfaction with the present moral order is not a modern phenomenon
I'm a huge Emily Wilson fan She taught me ancient Greek. I've assigned her translations to my students. I interviewed her about translating the Odyssey a few weeks ago for my YouTube I'm not a fan of this review. And for what, I think, are good reasons (SPOILERS) /1
I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
The script is almost done. There was a delay because it was our anniversary AND our son’s birthday. C-c-c-combo! Anyway, so I hope you like stories about calling in sick for work and spitefully eating roadkill when the boss checks in on you… because that’s what is delaying Henry’s war.
“It’s not an unnecessarily mean and personal attack. It’s just normal academic criticism” isn’t the defense some people think it is. And I say that as someone who has definitely been unnecessarily mean and personal in the past.
I just had the craziest dream. Batman’s CPA told him that he was getting a tax break for adopting Robin. Batman: Is there an upper limit on that? CPA: Not that I’m aware of. Batman: Alfred, arrange to adopt all the kids of gotham. And that’s how Batman built a child army… for tax reasons.
“What are we gonna call this?” “Battery Storage System?” “Not kinky enough.”

$100 to any reporter who asks him, "so you're saying Capitol Police should've shot dead everyone who breached the Capitol on January 6?"
Homan on people getting killed by ICE: "It comes down to one simple fact -- these people failed to comply with law enforcement ... all they had to do is comply. If they did, they'd be alive today."
Homan on his wife: “it comes down to one simple fact — she made me mad. All she had to do is not make me mad and she wouldn’t be wearing dark sunglasses right now.”
Homan on people getting killed by ICE: "It comes down to one simple fact -- these people failed to comply with law enforcement ... all they had to do is comply. If they did, they'd be alive today."
Pete Hegseth: "We need our warriors to embrace the Spartan mindset" U.S. Military: *suffers crushing defeat to the Persians*
The only good thing to come out of the dipshit Odyssey discourse is that at one point I commented “if we’re worried about accuracy, then Jason Mantzoukas should be playing Odysseus,” and now I can’t get it out of my head 😄
The fact that VP JD Vance and Richard Grenell went to Romania—on behalf of the Trump Administration— to advocate for Andrew and Tristan Tate, who by all accounts, were rapists running a coercive sex ring, then permitted them to come to Florida, should be a crazy, crazy scandal.
This match sums up our national characters. England: Do the job we should have done several days ago at a time when it no longer matters France: *Gallic shrug*
Apparently, there’s a reenactment of Agincourt taking place right now.
I thought that the French didn’t go on vacation until August.
My feed is mostly a mix of US and UK folks and the differences in political complaints are striking… US: The tyrant is planning to end elections and his thugs are still killing innocent people in the streets! UK: Farage is running against a bin, and our trains aren’t very reliable.
