I get your point (so sad about Penny Lane), but I don't think Leviticus did poorly - $1.4m at the local box office for an Oz film is solid. Only a handful of AU horror pics have bettered that out here (Invisible Man: $9m, Wolf Creek: $6m, Wolf Crk 2: $4.7m, Talk To Me: $4.2m, Bring Her Back: $2.7m).
If we pushed Australian low-budget horror production hard (which we should!) and marketed them overseas, you'd get the element you need to make Australians see Australian films: the approval of non-Australians

Most of the time I don't even know what's on. I used to be able to scan a newspaper or watch The Movie Show. Now I have to check each cinema individually and hope that I catch it in the 1-week theatrical window.

For the first time ever this morning I had someone recognise that I had a sunflower lanyard on and they offered me their seat. They also had a sunflower lanyard on. I said thank you, but I'm ok. Nobody else offered.

The Kayo 'more awesome sport is just moments away' clips are infuriating. Don't they have commentators to talk about the game in between quarters? Anyhow, watching the Australia v Ireland AFLW game. So many great players on either side, but... Go Australia.
