If we pushed Australian low-budget horror production hard (which we should!) and marketed them overseas, you'd get the element you need to make Australians see Australian films: the approval of non-Australians
Yes we should, but also, Aussie horror like Leviticus does poorly at the Australian box office. A film like Penny Lane is Dead has also failed at the box office. It's one thing to make films that service an international market, but it's another to try and get Aussie audiences to them.
australia makes great low-budget horror, fantasy, and genre film. we should be making more of it. #tv #film #cinema #australia
Australia is ready to take advantage of cinema's low-budget genre boom | ScreenHub: Film, TV, Streaming and Games
The box office success of mid-budget genre films like Obsession should be a learning lesson for Australian cinema.

Props to this woman for doing all she could to not say anything
Ryan Ruocco noting Cheryl Reeve's shirt and then video of Cheryl talking to Sophie Cunningham earlier
never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
unseal your cards, unseal your comics, take things out of the fucking box. it's all just cardboard and plastic. fuck the resale market
K-pop star Momo is under fire after breaking open a vintage graded Pokémon card to stick it on her face and keep it in her phone case
"These young girls that are sitting at games with anti-trans signs, do they understand actually what the real problems are and how they’re being marginalized? We’re still not in a space where we have equality."
"Being trans is sad Being trans is horrid." Shut up. Being trans is great. Look. I've got inner peace and a fucking scythe.
Today at the convent: the nuns have been teaching me to scythe.
Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus Cause he's a large senate man He's called Fetterman and He's duuuuuummmbbbbbbb
Of all the legendary insults that pop up in my head from time to time I don’t think there’s anything better than whoever described Steve Bannon as looking like “the coroner of Margaritaville”
I’m really glad I have Bluesky to keep me informed about what Matt Yglesias is saying. I have him blocked for being a dumbass nobody centrist shill with nothing to say and I don’t use X, but thankfully all the nothing he says gets screenshotted and reposted here. Wouldn’t want to miss it!
say what you will about AI, always-on voice recording and auto dictation has been a game changer for my workflows. Save post and close app. Yeah Footlong meatball sub on white. No veggies. Don't toast it. Ranch and barbecue sauce. Yeah, ranch and bargecue sauce. More. More. Little more please
measuring data centres by "chadstones" is the most terrifying unit of measurement possible in australia
For those who don't know Melbourne's south east, this is a data centre that is six times larger than the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere (and worst in the world).
They keep telling me media literacy is dead but then I see videos like this and I know it jot to be true
when a driver stops in the crosswalk rather than before it i like to give them a warm smile while ostentatiously stroking one finger across the hood of their car as i cross. they get just fightin mad lmao
I once had to arrange utilities disconnection for a woman who refused to read her meter as 'the cellar is haunted.' When I got the engineer's report back it read; 'Could not disconnect, was pelted with nails by unseen entity.'
what are some absurd work situations you can share? once i got called into a meeting i had nothing to do with because the consultant brought an engineer and no one in the room could understand him, so they asked me to translate. he was scouse. i translated from english to english.
This statement is *considerable* progress. Eight years ago the AEC was resisting changing Batman to (as it turned out) Cooper. I literally asked the Commission to their faces how many people you're allowed to murder before you can't have an electorate named for you: meanjin.com.au/latest/shift...
it's not an own to point out that all these fucking guys trying to deny trans people their hormones are so into HGH and whatnot. they don't care either way about 'gender affirming care.' they want to be he-men and they want trans people to die. to them the two projects are perfectly coherent
