The ads for this flick have been driving me insane, because of that question: WHY?? Why has premarital sex been outlawed in their world? The trailer shows no other signs of it being a dystopia! They just serve up "er, THE PURGE, but with sex," but THE PURGE actually has lore, a political POV, etc. 🤦♂️

Can someone please explain to me why SPIDER-MAN: BRAN NUE DAE is just expected to be a giant hit? I thought we were all tired of this stuff, or the idea of Peter’s friends getting to know him again. We’ve even seen Peter battle self-doubt and depression before. Is it just the star power of Tomdaya?

At 100, there's no question that Mel Brooks is foundational. His films and comedy have quite literally shaped pop culture. Just as important, I feel, was his work producing films for artists like Lynch and Cronenberg. Championing those with visions different than his own to the benefit of us all.

Even where politics aren't directly involved, X is built to generate conflict. So many wrestling podcasts I listen to are just the hosts saying how much they disagree with what idiots are saying on X—an app built to expose you to idiots. Their lives are less happy because of it.
