Writer of FLEX/SOL MAJESTIC/my new book series, DRAGON KINGS OF OKLAHOMA. Quietly (re)connecting with friends, nothing more. Please don't make this weird.

Sometimes I look back at how far I've come in terms of being able to pack away my anxiety, my depression, my suicidal thoughts in order to interface with the people I love. People can't manage me unfiltered, not even my wife. Then I think of how far I have to go and I hope I can make it to good.

In a sane world, the business owners would go "These people are having so much joy from what we do that they're putting in free time and labor, we should cherish them and we'll all grow this business." Realistically, they go "WE'RE the smart ones. WE make money from this. That's why they're bozos."

This is a capitalist structure that repeats itself infinitely across every hobbyist genre. A lot of hobbies only exist because of enthusiastic volunteers doing work that a company knows it will never have to pay full price for. And that free labor all too often leads to contempt.

An important topic I didn’t cover. WotC KNOWS people will work there for pennies and promos. They KNOW they can give people the bare minimum, whether that’s employees, content creators, or players. HR literally said so to my face multiple times.

It's amazing how effective The Contract With America was for Republicans, a concrete list of objectives they gave low-information voters... And it's not at all amazing that the DNC cannot give a single focused message except for "Trump is Bad, we're better."

Man I’m seeing people post things like “you don’t know what Jeffries or the DNC have planned!” My dude if they have some great plan to save America they should probably start telling me about it because the secrecy sure isn’t helping

Magic: the Gathering card design got a lot better when they recognized the distinction between 6/10 "everyone thinks they're fine" cards and 6/10 "Half the people hate this card, the other half thinks this is the best card ever printed" cards Sometimes the midline is because it WAS made for you

There's nothing wrong with playing the critically acclaimed 10/10s. They tend to be loved for a reason! But many of them are rated so highly in part because they appeal to everyone. The 5s, 6s, and 7s? That's where you'll find many of the games that feel like they were made for you specifically.

“If ever there was a woman you’d want to join your book group or spend an evening chatting with at a wine bar, Stella Harris is that person. With shoulder-length gray hair and fashionable glasses, she exudes a sophisticated professorial air that’s backed up by credentials...”

Comfort-watching Rocky again. The reason this fairy tale rings so true is because the folks in it aren't engineered to be lovable: Paulie's a complete asshole, Mickey's a passive-aggressive nightmare, even Rocky's incoherent. Rocky understands that poverty means you have to get along with them.

Darren Mooney has become my Roger Ebert replacement in that even when I disagree with him violently with regards to how good a movie is (as I do here), he provides enough of his reasoning that I can see "Oh, yeah, I understand the complaint, but that doesn't bother me because the movie also does X."

New episode of #TheBackdrop up at @SecondWindGroup.com, taking a look at how Sony put the “brand” in “Brand New Day.” And how it offers a glimpse of the post-Marvel Studios MCU. WATCH: youtu.be/XrUTIIFAhHA?...

Every artist has a unique voice. Even if that artist turns out to be a complete shitbird, you can't rip out their works and replace them with someone nicer like you were changing a fuse. Would that we COULD, with one Mssr. Harry Potter - but alas, the books remain good even when the author is not.

This is one of the "two things can be true" that modern pop culture struggles with. The first is that it is entirely correct to fire people who abuse positions of power. The second is that some times bad people are good at what they do, not anonymous and replaceable cogs in vast machines.

I am seeing more and more reskeets trying to dunk on people that are already blocked on my end. What happened to block and move on? We collectively agreed that this was the way forward for BlueSky, why have we stopped suddenly?

"Indies will save us" No! YOU WILL SAVE INDIES! Go leave a review for that neat indie game you like, share the trailer for an upcoming game you're anticipating, tell your fave developer they did a good job, go tell people about such and such game that's just come out, you can make a difference!

Today Iran said they won't negotiate with Trump anymore because he's insane and so they'll just wait until 2029 and also he fell asleep in the Oval Office again but the media is too focused on trying to divide Democrats and the Attorney General is a pedo protector and ah fuck we're so cooked chat

VICTORIAN MAN: My spine is chipped in seven places and my lungs are entirely coal dust. Off to work a sixteen-hour day in lightless mines or I'll starve. ME: My vacation flight got in late last night and this morning and for my JOB I have to STARE at a SCREEN, ugh, this is the WORST
