It is genuinely amazing just how much these people all fucking hate each other.
for reasons that only make sense if you're insane, a TPUSA kid complaining about burrito costs on xitter has the GOP's biggest divas going for each other's throats.

A lot of people, if not a considerable majority, occupy that passive acceptance as the status quo space, so what more rabid white supremacists have done is effectively create a motte and bailey argument where they get to push their ideas for global genocide and then retreat to the status quo bias.
One of the hardest things to teach people is that white supremacy doesn't require racial hatred to keep itself going, and this thread kind of does a good job at pointing out how and why that happens.
I think a good way to think about the current moment is understanding white supremacy as a spectrum with passive acceptance as the status quo out to actively arguing for global genocide.
Councilor Louijeune, who proposed the resolution, said the city is already working (along with groups like the United Way) to help local Haitians) and has several ways to help thousands of fellow Bostonians, but today's court action increases the urgency.
Councilor Flynn just blocked a non-binding resolution calling on the city to set up a coordinated emergency response plan to help Haitian immigrants facing loss of their homes now that they lost their TPS status today. Flynn wants more info on how much helping Haitians in Boston would cost. 1/2
Also, despite the discourse, Democrats in high-income areas did not back AES! He dominated in the most-educated counties, but Stevens won the richest counties... and the poorest. AES took the middle-income places. wapo.st/4fHFl0Y
The thing about a movie where nobody has premarital sex is that even when premarital sex was outlawed nobody was really interested in rigorously enforcing it most of the time. Instead you basically need a social taboo, and the social taboo is more interesting than the enforcement mechanics.
Literally I did a whole thread on why this might happened, explicitly detailed how I slightly reconfigured my commute to not do this, and I still had people whining at me about how they're supposedly getting buzzed by the entire Tour De France.
According to anti-cyclist replies, here's evidence that cars and bikes are equally dangerous: 🚗: They kill ~40000 people in the US annually 🚲: I saw a cyclist run a red light 30 years ago
I think this captures something I'm trying to say here. An "ally" dies on different hills than you; a comrade dies on your hill.
All socio-political alliances are opportunistic concessions. Deals made to be broken, in search of better deals. All socio-political comradeship is a mutual matter of life or death. And opting in usually isn't a choice, unless "embrace death" is somehow ever a viable alternative to Struggle.
She was 15! Wearing a sexy dress or not wearing underwear is not consent Horrible things like this are used to intimidate victims into staying silent

The rape victim was also asked in court if she was wearing underwear when she was attacked

It's not just that people view cars and bikes as equally dangerous -- it's that they then use these examples of red light running to argue *against* safe bike infrastructure. Drivers are never to held that standard for automotive projects!

Instead of being mad at bicyclists on sidewalks, be mad at our leaders who have decided that everyone not in a car should be left to fight over scraps of space not given to drivers
The inability of people on this site to read is reaching entirely new levels lately
Pour one out for this school zone speed limit sign asking drivers to go 15 mph on this six lane arterial If you want people to go 15 mph, then the road can't be designed like this
"Tonight, on POLITICS TONIGHT: Tuesday's primaries were a good night for charismatic handsome men. Our elite team of political analysts will discuss what complex social-ideological forces could have produced such an unforeseen result... TONIGHT. On POLITICS TONIGHT."
If El-Sayed wins the general I don't think we'll hear 'I have a theory that what works in the Midwest will work on the coasts but not the reverse' ever again. Draw strength from this. Let it motivate you.
Also if the benefit was framed as “the guy who now does this will have more time for less boring things” rather than “you can immediately lay off the guy who does this”
My impression as a non-Michigander is that this primary was a lot uglier online than it was in-person, similar to Texas, and no matter who won there would be very few bitter primary voters sitting out the general. Nevertheless some people should consider why this is a big channel for their rage.
My strong sense is that consumer LLMs have revealed how worthless and evil upper management is, and how much they resent having to send us worker bees "motivational" emails or doing any work, really, and assumed our jobs were just like that.
this is going to end up banal but what a world it would have been if the people who YOLO'd consumer LLMs with the pitch "this can automate the boring shit you don't want to do" had a definition of "boring shit" that was "set up AWS creds" instead of "art, music, socializing, raising children"
I actually configure AWS correctly now due to embedded chatbots
Dying at the right-wing activists that (1) held a call with Todd Blanche in which Blanche made a lot of anti-abortion promises, (2) said "uh this is off the record" like doing so would magically ward off journalists, and then (3) UPLOADED IT TO THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

This is worth amplifying (also this podcast is rad), that Roman slavery was, y'know, slavery. In fact, all slavery is horrifying, but the broader 'Mediterranean' slavery tradition (which is also, by the by, the ancestor of Atlantic slavery) is one of the *more extreme* such traditions.
Next time someone tries to tell you that Roman slavery was different or better than other forms of slavery, tell them to listen to last week’s episode of @thisguysucked.com and/or buy Emma’s book.

And there you have it. The anti trans campaign in Maine was never some "grassroots movement." It was bankrolled by billionaire Richard Uihlein, who poured over $800,000 into targeting trans kids over sports and bathrooms.

Genuinely wishing the best to Perez Hilton. Speaking from experience, having your whole life strapped to this internet machine taxes your soul. I hope he finds peace.
The big thing for AES from here on out is going to be getting committed Republicans very mad about how hot he is so they shoot their messaging in the foot
