The govt has fired *all* the immigration attorneys representing detained children and given a $150 million contract to a 26-employee law firm in Texas with ONE immigration attorney. @theyoungcenter.bsky.social's Child Advocates are now the last line of defense for kids in deportation hearings.

The reason they fired all the existing attorneys for immigrant children in ORR detention is bc lawyers under the most recent contract refused to violate attorney-client privilege. The government receives appointment information, but wants the attorneys' private files to deport children more easily.
A friend of mine once read the Geneva Convention just so that she was well versed in war crimes and could then commit as many possible during a DnD campaign.

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
This is maybe the perfect example of @gregpak.net bit that replacing every instance of “AI” with “cocaine” gets to the deeper truth of the attitude.

Sure, it's annoying to have to wait out a hold on a library book, but in a world where we're being told people are stupid and they don't read, how amazing is it that there are 7-100 people in your community RIGHT NOW wanting to read the same book as you?
(I lean more toward progressives' selections, so long as they're not selecting Blackwater rapists, but really, we'd all benefit from less arrogance and more care from politicos. I'd like to see more races between good progressive candidates and moderates who aren't 80 or racists with fake accents.)

finally got my water bill for last month and am glad to report that running the mister on super hot days for my favorite outside kitty only increased my bill by $5-6. Seems like a fair price to help him out
