Mostly harmless

This is absolutely WILD. Here's the dashboard video posted by @fritschner.bsky.social. Fast forward to about 1 minute. An ICE officer jumps out of a van and pulls a gun on this woman immediately before lying and claiming she "almost ran us over." *profanity warning if watching in public.

Video of an ICE agent pulling a gun on a wife and mother, who is a US citizen born and raised in the area, near Bailey's Crossroads in Northern Virginia yesterday. Chillingly, they claimed she “almost ran them over” until she told them she had video proving that was a lie.

This from Ipsos captures the Farage/Reform challenge. A v successful insurgent/outsider leader of a 4th/3rd party. Promoted to be judged as an alternative PM, he struggles to compete as much as any of the least successful modern leaders of the opposition.

A quick lesson on winning and losing a war. If you start a war of choice, blow through masses of your weapons stocks so that you cannot escalate effectively, and find the country you attacked dictating negotiating terms while in a stronger strategic position. You lost.

At this instant in 1945 (8:15 AM August 6, local time), Little Boy—a 15-kiloton, uranium-fueled atomic bomb—destroyed Hiroshima, killing (per official US military estimates) ~70,000 men, women, and children, incl. 12 American POWs. Independent estimates later maintained ~140,000 people were killed.

On the morning of August 6, 1945, Shinichi Tetsutani, who was one month shy of turning four years old, was riding this tricycle, playing with his best friend, a girl named Kimi, 1,500 meters away from where the Little Boy atomic bomb exploded overhead. When found in the wreckage of his house, he was still grasping the red handlebar grip from his tricycle. Severely injured and burned all over his body, calling out, “Water, I want water,” he died that night. Shinichi’s father buried him in the backyard with his favorite toy, and his best friend Kimi, so he could ride it and play even after death. Forty years later, in 1985, Shinichi’s father, Nobuo, decided to rebury his son in the family’s gravesite. Unearthing the backyard grave with Kimi’s mother, Nobuo rediscovered the tricycle and donated it to the museum.

A lot going on here. First, Miller looks shaken. Or drunk. Second, he comes off every bit the creep that he seems to be. Saying he isn't dropping out because Trump didn't drop out after being accused of sexual assault is a hell of a choice. And third, he doesn't appear to know what hearsay means.

Tapper: "There are now three women who have accused you of violent behavior…Are all three of these women who don't know each other lying?" Rep. Max Miller: "Yes…It's all hearsay." Tapper: "It's not hearsay if it is firsthand testimony from women."

One of my great frustrations with the media is they know Trump is full of shit on things like this. But because they don’t know if he’s lying or delusional they type up neither possibility. But they should be loudly writing that those are the only two possibilities and both are disqualifying!

Judge Mehta's J6 Requiem "That book is now closed. Today’s epilogue diminishes the gravity of that day, denigrates the work of the prosecutors and ... officers who secured these convictions, and excuses criminal acts that caused a centuries-long pillar of our democracy ... to buckle."

This is the last of the prosecutions seeking to hold accountable those responsible for the
events of January 6. That book is now closed. Today’s epilogue diminishes the gravity of that
day, denigrates the work of the prosecutors and law enforcement officers who secured these
convictions, and excuses criminal acts that caused a centuries-long pillar of our democracy—the
peaceful transfer of presidential power—to buckle. The court cannot write a different ending.

We disgrace ourselves as a nation each and every day Donald Trump remains in office. The drafters of the United States Constitution provided a remedy for a criminally insane president like the one we have—impeachment and removal ...
