The internet’s only Voyager fan. Not sure if I’m a leftist because of Star Trek or a Star Trek fan because I’m a leftist.

The woman who played the Bum stayed at the hotel I worked at as a bellhop. She was… a manic guest. I had to drive her to the airport, and on the ride I said that I was getting my masters in German. She said “Germany!? I bet they’re all up in that Hitler shit over there!!” and I was just like “….”

it's since become a meme and lost a lot of its power, but the scariest scene in movie history when I first saw it was the Winkie's scene in MULHOLLAND DRIVE. Incredible execution and sold by Patrick Fischler whose flawless performance vibrates on the exact same wavelength as the movie.

Talking politics yesterday and briefly imagined my 17 year old self from 02 overhearing current me. Things were bad, but in that way that fits within the expected function of the world? I think I would have been appalled and disgusted with how blunt and incompressible this era is. Beyond parody.

Everything he does is like a cartoon parody of imperialism that would be produced by a geopolitical adversary.

An AI image showing a gigantic aircraft carrier where Greenland is supposed to be. It has a huge American flag and the text says welcome to Greenland

Important to remember the man he's standing next to started his political career calling Obama's citizenship into question over birth certificates. That goal post has been moved such that a certificate won't protect you. They will redraw the lines until everyone they hate is excluded.

Rally speaker: "Mike Rogers is an American. Abdul has a birth certificate. The birth certificate says he's a citizen of America. You know what? a birth certificate doesn't make you an American."

This got me thinking back to Alpha Centauri and how evocative its beautiful writing is. It's rare to see a work of science fiction take dozens of incompatible philosophies, many of which you'll disagree with, and imagine how those views might adapt to new discoveries and evolve in the future.

I've come to the conclusion it's fine to just be blanket anti-AI right now. We can have the nuanced discussions about local models, limited usage, etc. later. It's simply not possible to have those discussions right now. The current emergency is AI as fascist movement. We need to fight that.
