Was in active fire territory earlier. One of the three fires in Spokane County is burning nearly 4k acres and swept through trails in Riverside State Park.

The Autumn Lane Fire is mostly burning north of the Little Spokane Natural Area, and has been moving south. Crews upgraded some evacuations last night. There will be a substantial effort today to stop the fire at the Little Spokane River so it cannot threaten North Indian Trail.
Some returned home, but dozens remained in limbo. Folks who stayed slept in the barn area; others sought solace in the parking lot outside. People caught naps behind their wheels as pets paced nervously in the backseat. Others took turns walking the horses in the stables.

Across the city, residents have evacuated their animals from the flames. But people fear for the ones left behind.

Spokane Rising@spokanerising.com · 4d agoHoly crap. Level 3 (GO NOW!) zone now includes urban Spokane, south of Francis to Wellesley. Level 2 (GET SET!) zone now extends east of Division. Not to be alarmist, but at this rate, it’s not inconceivable that the Old Trails Fire merges with the Fairview Fire.

Being 300 miles away while massive fires rip through multiple areas of Spokane and Riverside State Park, as friends evacuate with their pets and my sweet little former home is a couple of blocks outside an evac zone (for the moment)... do not recommend this feeling of helplessness
