Spokane folks and Spokane journalists: I am getting a steady stream of spam calls the past few days since the fires. Are you as well? My phone is flagging them as suspected spam so I am not picking up but the volume makes me worry about bad actors.

The Autumn Lane Fire is mostly burning north of the Little Spokane Natural Area, and has been moving south. Crews upgraded some evacuations last night. There will be a substantial effort today to stop the fire at the Little Spokane River so it cannot threaten North Indian Trail.

Some returned home, but dozens remained in limbo. Folks who stayed slept in the barn area; others sought solace in the parking lot outside. People caught naps behind their wheels as pets paced nervously in the backseat. Others took turns walking the horses in the stables.

Slow clap and mad respect to all the local journalists in Spokane who have been covering this nonstop over the past 30+ hours, delivering updates to people desperate for them while also feeling heartbreak for family, friends, neighbors, and in some cases preparing to evacuate themselves. Thank you.

Being 300 miles away while massive fires rip through multiple areas of Spokane and Riverside State Park, as friends evacuate with their pets and my sweet little former home is a couple of blocks outside an evac zone (for the moment)... do not recommend this feeling of helplessness

guys I'm doing a coastal beach sprint tomorrow morning here in Port Angeles, I had never been in a coastal boat before this week, our first and only practice run was this afternoon, wish me luck 🤣 🤞🏼

This is just so fucking bleak, y'all. Rare and old books being scanned and then pulped to feed the slop machines?! These beautiful, irreplaceable, physical objects? I'm trying so hard to ignore the noise and just make cool stuff and it's really getting harder every day to focus and forge ahead.
