“…also offers a chance to revisit the long tradition of male entertainment journalists, pundits and hosts who believe they’re owed acknowledgment from Hollywood actresses — and use their pens (or platforms) to fight perceived slights.”

Just saw this dropped!! I used the recent Inde Navarette/Jeff S*eider discourse to write about Hollywood's long history of male entertainment journalists writing on women for @salon.com. www.salon.com/2026/09/17/h...

If you mention suicide, people might kill themselves!! Okay cool so let’s turn it into a weird perverse social taboo and create pseudoscientific guidelines to ban media mentioning it in a direct way, that sounds healthy. That will make people feel much more comfortable talking about it

TIL that Clive James’ birth name was Vivian Leopold James. His parents allegedly let him change his name after Gone With The Wind resulted in Vivian effectively being seen as a woman’s name.

I cannot tell you how wrong this is. I’m an author and a library worker. Ebook lending gets people to READ. People who can’t go into libraries because people love airborne infectious diseases these days. People who can’t hold a traditional book up. People whose schedules don’t align with open hours

Publishers have gotten the Authors' Guild to back up their anti-Library ebook rhetoric again. Authors, please come get your gal: www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

Several of One Nation's leaders have expressly said they will ban all abortion for all girls & women, then 'clarified' they meant just the ones they decide should be forced to give birth. Believe them first. Believe them when they're not spinning. A One Nation vote is a vote for forced birth.

One Nation's NSW boofhead leader in orange short and hat caught saying it will wipe out abortion rights for girls & women, then saying whoops I meant just the ones we decide must give birth.

I am not first and will be far from the last to say this: I have purchased so many books because I saw them recommended or publicized here on bsky. I cannot urge you all enough to KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS. I know it's easier to talk up someone else's book, but this also means you, the shy author.

I have mentioned it before, so maybe, but I know others liked it too. Hooray for word of "mouth" (or post) for getting it seen.

There’s hangover here from mid-20thC countercultural-liberal notions that it’s wrong to make people ashamed of themselves, and that we should progress from [religious, repressive] shame. I could not agree less! Shame is an incredibly powerful motivator to do right. Some people should be ashamed!

It is good, proper, and effective to make people ashamed of their political views. There seems to be some sense that it’s impolite to actually confront One Nation voters with the racism of ONP. But I ask: why. Racism is a shameful thing and has been for a long time.

if you’ve ever wondered how chaotic it is having three dogs this video might help you understand i just wanted to show how dramatic jock is when you ask to shake his paw 🙄

Eye-wateringly stupid defence from Rowling’s team here - ‘She does not support legal actions aimed at harming transgender people.’ - Really? So that £70,000 towards the bathroom ban was by accident? The JKR Women’s Fund was made by an impersonator? At least have the spine to admit you want us dead
