He will never understand that being "the fat guy from Superbad" is infinitely better than being "the martial arts chud nobody likes"

I had a realization yesterday that The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a great allegory for Generative AI. Mickey pawns off work to an autonomous force only to have that force mindlessly use keep doing that very thing and destroy everything while using up plenty of perfectly good water in the process
I'm thinking that Tom Holland/Zendaya/Jon Bernthal colabs might be lucrative.
Dunking on Zaslav is fun, but Barbie ended pretty definitively and I'm not sure there's tons of room for a sequel. Maybe Gerwig has a great idea under her sleeve but I can also see a world where this is the next Joker: Folie à Deux (financially) so I'm not too shocked the suits are being cautious.
‘BARBIE 2’ might happen with Greta Gerwig ready to begin writing the film. Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling & Greta Gerwig are all in talks to return but David Zaslav is currently refusing to pay what they're demanding, calling it “too generous.” (Source: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/31/b...)
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is... kind of all over the place. There are definitely some good ideas in there, lots of them, but the execution is mixed. It's heavier than the other MCU spider flicks and Cretton's direction is less fun than Watts' for better or worse.
Nolan should have saved his shout-outs for some safely dead translators like Robert Fagles or Robert Fitzgerald who can't talk shit about his movie.
New dystopia just dropped. Trying to make "Never Let me Go" happen this time.
There's no way Bryan Johnson could possibly get any creepier than he already- hang on, I'm getting a note
Major Episodes in Nolan's The Odyssey Ranked (Spoilers I guess) 1. Hades 2. Trojan War - Odysseus' Side 3. Circe 4. Trojan War - Menelaus' Side 5. Cyclops 6. Scylla and Charybdis 7. Sirens 8. Sun God's Cattle and Aftermath 9. Fight With Suitors 10. Temple Fight 11. Calypso 12. Laestrygonians
It takes a while to get there but The Odyssey does eventually reveal a fairly interesting interpretation of the text at its core that finally makes it click with Nolan's filmography. It has a lot more in common with Oppenheimer than it first appears.
My friend the Michigan Strangler has died. A lot of people only know the Michigan Strangler from all that strangling he did and I understand that, but that is not the full picture of the friend he was to me when he wasn't strangling people. We used to go to Arby's. Rest in peace, "Chokey Boy."
The funny thing about The Invite is that it's the eighth international remake of the same Spanish movie in just six years... like, this can't have happened organically, there's some sort of weird franchising deal going on.
I had the privilege of working with Senator Dracula on my bill offering tax cuts to family-owned mortuaries. While we disagreed on much and his horrible embrace has left me unable to endure sunlight, I'll always remember his amusing little jokes about exsanguinating my staff.
Son of a Bitch! Okay, Spain you have Tiki-Taka-ed your way into my heart (by default), let's win this!
God dammit. Okay, bandwagoning Norway now. Skol.
My big complaint with Evil Dead Rise is that it was too effective for its own good at establishing a likable central family, which made seeing them get brutalized not very fun. Evil Dead Burn... does not have that problem.
"how were people writing 10 page papers before AI???" we were smarter than you. you could've been smart, too. but you sold your brain for nothing
God dammit. Okay, bandwagoning Norway now. Skol.
Officially rooting for Belgium. Fuck Trump.
Is the media really too stupid to realize they're being hijacked to provide free advertising to tech companies with bullshit like this? Or are they on the take?
Is it time to enter the Tillyverse? Seven things you need to know about AI ‘actor’ Tilly Norwood
... is this going to be another situation where I'm rooting for Netflix to do something evil so that Paramount can't do something even more evil?
BREAKING: Netflix in talks to buy Letterboxd. Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount and Alexis Ohanian also supposedly looking at a bid for the social media-movie platform, per Variety. variety.com/2026/digital...
I told myself I wouldn't buy the Jackie Chan boxed set, especially not in the same month I was spending so much on the B&N Criterion sale... anyway...
David Lowery keeps the strangest bedfellows.
The Fisherman Movie in the Works from David Lowery, Michael Bay https://www.inbella.com/1643727/the-fisherman-movie-in-the-works-from-david-lowery-michael-bay/ Focus has landed the catch of the day, picking up the supernatural horror package The Fisherman, a novel by John Langan. David Lowery, …
Huge loss. He's been a pillar of commentary tracks and bonus features on physical media for Asian cinema (and beyond) and the depths of his knowledge on the subject was astonishing.
Very sad to hear the passing of film historian Tony Rayns (1948-2026). #RIP
FFS. The only road to a Western Hemisphere winner is Argentina? Fuck that.
