Katydids keep gathering in the space between our window panes, so I made it a disco

Happy Pride Month from my ridiculously gay upstairs bathroom-in-progress, which is on track to be finished by the end of this month!!
Week 4 of construction. My sleep is broken from 8am power tool sounds, but my god, it’s starting to look like a bathroom. Chad is a dedicated volunteer site supervisor who has charmed the crew and multiple city inspectors. He’s only had to be rescued out of the floor three times!
This week we started construction to add a second bathroom to the house. I’ve been planning this project for a decade but somehow never realized that contractors making demo noises in my house at 8am would mean I can’t sleep past 8am. Anyway, this is days 1 and 2 of progress.
My dad used to borrow favorite movies from me and forget to return them for years at a time, so after he died I retrieved a collection of my own DVDs from his house. Tonight we opened one, and the disc was missing. MOTHERFUCKER STILL WON’T GIVE ME BACK MY COPY OF HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE

Co-pilot Wallace now has his own rainbow seatbelt cover! It goes with the rainbow seatbelt covers I made for the other front seats but is Wallace sized.
Co-pilot Wallace is ready to hit the road!
The last protest I was able to attend was for trans rights, in fall 2019. It was my dad’s last protest, and the visceral sense of belonging from standing with him that day still feeds my heart when I remember it. If you’re out there marching today, I hope you take that feeling home with you.
My spouse has had 2 ambulance rides in 3 weeks and is wearing a heart monitor. My sleep is fucked from stress + construction noise nextdoor. Still feel guilty not attending the protest. If asked “Where were you when…?” guess I’ll say we were home, surviving the shit our neighbors were protesting.
Is there a name for the thing where life gets so stressful that your sanity hinges on a silly little project? Anyway, I made the stuffed elephant who lives in my car his own little car seat
Donated my car today. Thanks for a decade of safe trips, Mabel 💚
Did you know that if your medication is lost in a house fire, health insurance can refuse to replace it right away because you’re “not due for a refill yet???” Fuck’s sake, America.
I got to drop off some groceries for Anya’s family today. Her dad is back with them and in good spirits!
In the midst of all the horrors, a fire last week claimed my niece’s family’s home in St Paul, including their 3 cats and her mom’s prosthetic limb. Her dad is in the ICU with a brain bleed. It’s not safe for them to leave their temporary housing. Please help if you can. gofund.me/4481a1d9e
I need everyone to know that on the crochet subreddit the mods made a big post about how they're taking a week off because there was too much fighting/political posts. so there's currently no mods on r/crochet and people are being absolutely insane
Updating my client handouts has been fun and normal
How am I supposed to get work done under these conditions
Question for Minneapolis friends: I’m thinking of making coloring pages about resistance and community. One of the images that’s calling to me most is the objects left at community memorial sites—flowers, candles, signs, etc. Does that seem like a disrespectful/not okay subject for a coloring page?
Minnesota folks: if you know someone who needs a flight to MSP after being detained in Texas, standwithminnesota.com has collected donated SkyMiles to help them get home -- spread the word!
if you are in MN and hear of anyone in need of a flight home from detention please send them my way (contact@standwithminnesota.com)

A father with a heart condition was kidnapped by ICE at McDonalds in MN. The family is asking for help with legal fees, bond requests, & rent assistance. An ICE agent smirked at the son when he went to drop off the medicine for his father. We need to bring him back home ASAP. gofund.me/6459cadb4

80% funded, and with so many familiar names on the list…I’m blown away. Thank you all. A quick good update: Anya’s dad is doing well enough that his medical team is planning for outpatient rehab!

Got woken up in the middle of the night by a cat barfing on my leg and thought “Well, this is a refreshingly mundane problem to have”
