The Google homepage is doing a cool thing right now if you search “eclipse 2026” (or certain variants thereof)

I am a traveller (not necessarily in a geographical sense) who seeks, observes … & occasionally finds. I am a programming software tester, studied physics, survived cancer & live at the seaside. I love the ocean and go swimming a lot – in winter, too.
If you don't have proper eclipse glasses / filters, try a pinhole camera ... When the sun is whole, images will be circles. When partially eclipsed they will be crescents. You can use a colander or even a Ritz Biscuit. Find out more in my book "Up - a scientist's guide to the magic above us"
Today marks the 8th year since my cancer diagnosis. Still alive and kicking - and cancer-free. 👍🎉 Folks, go to the checkups if you can – and the post-treatment examinations if you have to. Also, #FuckCancer
Yay! Personal distance record: 2,2 km freestyle swimming in the #NorthSea. #OpenWaterSwimming #OpenWater

Brilliant: I'm working on my Unicode talk… and have a Unicode issue. 🤣 My (up-to-now) trusted #Pry console (for Ruby) gives me > ''.encoding => #<Encoding:BINARY (ASCII-8BIT)> instead of the expected 'ä'.encoding => #<Encoding:UTF-8> (which I DO get in #irb or a plain #Ruby script).
... users can be found giggling, crying, or simply staring into the distance saying "Whoah..." We spoke to one, and asked how they feel about warnings that the practice is addictive: "I could stop, but I don't want to." Some experts say if reading was invented today it would be banned at once.

As long expected. It’s climate science 101. The vapor thirst of the atmosphere increases exponentially with temperature. A law of physics known since the early 19th C (Clausius–Clapeyron law). It causes more drought even if rainfall doesn’t decline. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

DHH is now openly calling for the ethnic cleaning so "Europe can live". If you're a member of the Rails core team, the best time to do something was yesterday. The next best time is now. You have to live with yourself for the rest of your life based on what you do.

It's that time again: Getting overly excited when new emails arrive, as it could be about acceptance/rejection of a conference proposal. — Only to find it's yet another spam mail or something other less interesting. 😰😬
A line that stayed with me from an old hiking book: > The safest place to store water in hot weather is in your body. People have died of dehydration with water still in their canteens. this isn't a metaphor for anything. finish your water bottle.
In Spain today: installation of solar panels above major irrigation channels. Channels of more than 100 kms transport water from dams to farmland. - Reduces evaporation -Provides large agricultural areas with power & supports irrigation -Decreases use of water in food production, doubling the crop.
