there is literally no amount of caveats or careful wording that will protect you from stupidity or bad faith, so you might as well say things straightforwardly and strongly to begin with.

Over the past three years I’ve been slowly working through a personal goal of revisiting what I’ve loosely called my writing lineage. It has been one of the most worthwhile pursuits I’ve done as a writer in the last few years so I’m here to share the wealth.
I like that Charlotte Brontë was basically telling a soapy saga about how the world is a hard and complicated place and sometimes Shit Happens, and Jane Austen is just like, “I’ve met the worst and simultaneously most boring people you can imagine. Hunker down, let me tell you all about them.”
Soojin is a brilliant and adaptable artist. Did you love the look of Pentiment? They were responsible for a ton of it. Out of the many, many ways they left their mark on that game, though, my favorites have to be the Landsknecht playing cards and story-time with Brother Sebhat.
i'm getting let go in september :^D (pained grinning) i'll be looking for work in any eligible field starting now, but especially then. if you need a concept artist / illustrator, i'm here <3
Hello World, I'm open for employment once more, I was affected by the Microsoft/Xbox layoffs at Obsidian I want to thank my former co-workers for the last few years of unforgettable moments and fulfilling one of my childhood wishes in working for one of my favorite game devs growing up.
AK is one of the hardest working devs I’ve ever met, only to be matched by her skill surrounding characters and dialogue. I deeply admired the way she made her lines sing, and while I know acquiring such skill takes many years of deliberately working the craft, she made it look effortless.
I'm very sorry to announce that I was one of the devs affected by the Obsidian layoffs today. At least for four years, it was a beautiful dream. If you need a writer with experience in everything from the fog of war to romance - especially if you're open to remote - please get in touch.
Jay Turner taught me so so much about writing, companion work, RPGs, and smart dialogue. Whenever we’d get on a call he always brought up points I hadn’t considered in a way that made me a better writer, designer, and person. I loved coordinating on character work together—a real privilege.
I and a good number of very talented game devs were laid off by Obsidian as part of the Microsoft sacrificial rituals this morning. If you or anyone you know is looking for a Senior Writer/ND with more than two decades' experience in titles like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, please let me know!
I worked with Katie once she joined the Avowed team, and the difference she made was immediate. She understood RPGs inside-out, her dialogue made us snort in laughter constantly, and she wrote the most agonizing conundrums in quest lines that players simply loved. I miss working with her every day.
So many amazing, wonderful people - and me - were laid off today. All of them deserve the world and I hope they get back on their feet soon. As for me? I suppose I'm open for work once the shock wears off.
my belief is that at the end of the day, great games are made by groups of people who have high trust with each other & can fluidly execute a shared vision. which is a small part of why these layoffs are so devastating- it's not just about jobs, it's about these "trust structures" being torn apart.

Hello world! I'm bringing a professional account forward out of fandom lurking. I'm Johannah, I've been a narrative designer on Destiny 2 since 2022 and contributed to releases since then. :) Like many of my beloved colleagues I am now on the market. Watch this space question mark?
my thoughts are with everyone at bungie today. you built a remarkable world together and brought many people years of joy with it. this is not how you should be rewarded.
Well, I've been affected by the Bungie layoffs, and I guess I'm now looking for work. I'm a senior narrative designer on Destiny 2. I'm going to thread a little list of stuff I've done on the game; normally I go out of my way to avoid attention, but today I'd appreciate reposts.
RIP Bobby Prince. His music legacy will live on, making inspired music for Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, countless others. A true legend. And such a nice man, great musician, wonderful, fun-loving man, nothing but happy memories of him. A loss to the world.
South of Midnight’s dialogue is a masterclass in laying down words that leave you raw but opens up the world in return. @zeestermeester.bsky.social and @epistellar.bsky.social helped make that happen. Follow their work and hire their expertise. You’ll receive an evocative story as a result.
If anyone is looking to hire a Peabody and BAFTA winning senior writer, I am looking for work. I’ve got six years experience in games. Everything from indie to AAA. I am not married to staying in games. I am hoping to relocate to the Bay Area. I am keeping my ears to the ground.
So @thewritegame.bsky.social read this aloud to me while I was incredibly medically high a few months ago and it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard

Hi, folks. Dear friends of mine released this precision platformer today. This game is such a joy to play and I would 100% this even if I didn’t know them. The mechanics and difficulty are perfectly tuned, and the art is beautifully presented from top to bottom. I just love it.
Best of luck to @oandcogames.bsky.social, who are releasing TetherGeist today on Steam and Switch! This game started life during the 2021 GMTK Game Jam and is now a huge, beautiful, story-rich precision platformer! store.steampowered.com/app/2474430/... www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Games/...

My best craft advice is "Put a giant worm in it." You can never go wrong with a giant worm. Sci-fi: Giant worm on an alien planet Fantasy: Giant worm in mountain sitting on a pile of gold Horror: Giant worm (eats people) Romance: Giant worm causes third-act breakup Mystery: Giant worm investigates
Writers: what’s a solid piece of *craft* advice you wish you’d known sooner? Mine is this: when making writing decisions, always stop and ask yourself what is best for the SCENE. What are the scene’s goals? Does this sentence, this paragraph, this line of dialogue serve those goals? If not, fix it.
A professor once told me that in casual book clubs with her non-writer friends their discussion always focused on how everyone felt about a story’s plot and characters. By contrast, in reading groups with her writing and English lit peers, they focused on structure, theory, line construction, etc.
