Christian, American, liberal, geoist. Big fan of compassion and taxing rents. Not a fan of oathbreakers or NIMBYs. Everything in politics is now secondary to preserving our Constitution.

In 1862, Lincoln told a group of concerned comservative voters that he had no plans to free the slaves, let alone arm blacks, and was met with anger from abolitionists. He had already written the emancipation proclamation and freed slave units were already training.

I’m about as pro Ukraine and anti Russia as it gets. But I would oppose Ukraine intentionally massacring Russian civilians because killing civilians is bad

The notion of a “throw the bums out” election where incumbents lose everywhere regardless of party has mostly been a myth, because people tend to blame the party in power nationally more than their particular incumbents. But maybe we’re finally getting that?

When I wrote letters in 2024, we specifically targeted them towards registered Democrats who had an inconsistent record of voting. That group is always going to lean Democratic to the extent it shows up, outside of extreme situations like rural West Virginia.

I’ve never understood the argument that, because low propensity voters lean Republican, Democrats shouldn’t try to juice turnout. Surely you target your GOTV to demographics that lean *towards* you!

The funniest recurring bit in American military history is letting the other team get a free year of wins and making them think the war is over before rolling out the invincible army of rookies.

In 2012, Harry Reid lied on the Senate floor and said Mitt Romney hadn’t paid taxes in a decade. Mitt Romney published his tax returns, proving that he *had* always paid taxes, thank you very much. No matter how little. Romney lost that election and Reid said “I’d do it again.”

That means at least 59 Senators next year. Then we threaten the other seats in NC, IA, KS, SC, and maybe LA (plus flip Murkowski in AK), along with WI and either IN, MO, or UT. It’s not inconceivable. But I’d say it’s closer to 1% odds than 10% odds. Plus, some Senators are true believers.

Going by Trump’s 2024 margin of victory by state, in order to threaten 67 Dem Senators by 2029 (and thereby induce GOP Senators to remove in 2027/28 to avoid that), Dems need to win up to KS, SC, and FL this year, and then either have independents run the table, break LA and MS, or some combination.

Joe Lieberman, representing a state that hasn’t turned down a Democrat since Mike Dukakis: sorry Harry, the insurance companies don’t want a public option White S. Premcy, MS-the bad part, who got elected in 2006 by calling Dick Cheney a homophobic slur: yes madam speaker, all glory to the party 🫡
