The other Beach Boys are feeding the goats. Mike Love, however, is suspicious of the goats. Mikes got some treats in his pockets, which he *could* give the goats, but, because he’s greedy and likes Mike Love far more than he could ever like goats, he’s decided to keep the treats for himself.

The cover of my first pressing (stereo, UK) of Pet Sounds. I have since sold this record. Shocking, I know. It's a classic. It did a lot to change the face of popular music. But it's always been a record I admire rather than love. It's never got its hooks into me like 'Revolver' or 'Rubber Soul' does, and I get much more enjoyment out of later Beach Boys LPs such as 'Holland' and 'Carl And The Passions'. So, being brutal, and honest about my listening habits, I decided it had to go. Hopefully someone else who connects with it in a way I never did is really enjoying it.

My abusive ex was a well-loved Raleigh musician who did Yoga, liked cats, talked about progressive ideas, dressed well, and was almost universally regarded as a Very Good Person. His friends and peers were shocked. It took years and one slip in front of one person who had more power than me.

Abusive men often charm women outwith their immediate relationships: it guarantees reputation laundering and future supply. The vested interest of the abuser lies in charming people in order to make any report of abuse seem unlikely, and to minimise the reporting power of the victim.

I'm so fucking desperate right now. I'm sorry to be asking so much, but I don't know what else to do. I had a couple job interviews last week and I'm really hoping one of them comes through finally. But I have to pay rent in four days or move out and literally anything helps rn gofund.me/6fb482364

Right?! All of this for the sake of “the reader,” but it’s assuming the reader is so stupid. I want my writing to be the primary thing a reader engages with, not my Instagram profile be for real. I know we’re going through a literacy crisis but good goddamn dumbing everything down isn’t gonna help!

All of this (that you just posted) is why I always stop & read your posts. It just motivated me to get offline & get back to writing & researching (with books). Not to be a Luddite, but to get my brain elasticity back. Witchcraft (and writing) is about connection & creativity. (my 2 cents)

From years of running an online business I still have this knee-jerk reaction that I need to be maintaining my social media presence. But here’s the thing: I’m writing fiction now! The presence I’ve already built isn’t there for that! So why not just focus on the gd writing??

Yeah we're also still talking about an extremely limited working life for women. If I was my grandma 100 years ago I'd be giving birth to a ton of children and hoping they mostly survived, all while not having my own financial autonomy.

100 years ago my grandparents were about 10-12 years old, so let’s say 85 years ago, I would be a preacher (or preacher’s wife), or doing odd jobs for money, as best as I can tell (or staying home with the kids). Could I? Yeah probably. Would I be happy? Unlikely.

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?

Look at this delightfully horrible bag I bought at GalaxyCon. I cannot wait to carry this around at an academic conference, or to meetings with my committee members. It has six dangly legs and everything.

A plush backpack hung over a chair. It is light brown and shaped like a winged stag beetle, with large black safety eyes and dangling legs.

Gonna dedicate this dissertation to myself and write an acknowledgment page that’s like “here‘s to me for doing all of this work by myself despite all of the unnecessary barriers that naysayers and my own university put in my way” 🌈

Reading about the commonplace book trend and near as I can tell it’s basically what every teen witch was doing in their composition-book of shadows in 1999 but with types of whale and new vocabulary words instead of spells and unattributed Doreen Valiente poetry. I’m into it.

Today is a day where I like my dissertation. It's because I'm writing a section I have a lot of feelings about: the distinctions around witchcraft in paranormal spaces versus the witchcraft one encounters in Pagan and occult spaces. They are SO DIFFERENT, and I haven't seen much written about it.

I’m in my third year of field work and sometimes I legit forget I’m doing ethnography and not just hanging with friends, but then one of my consultants will say or do something that blows my doors off and my carapace will split and my religious studies goo-self pours out and I just go WAIT WHAT

I'm playing a game with myself where I see how little I can use my phone. It lives in another room. I can still use it when I need it, but...I'm remembering how much I actually don't need it. I've felt a lot better since I got off Meta two years ago and have since been tackling scrolling.
