Teaching at my old university for the first time today. It feels like a special privilege to come back to where I first learned about important thinkers and to lecture the next generation.

In a matter of days Ukraine has retaken land on the frontline that it took Russia a year and tens of thousands of lives to occupy. Putin is on the back foot and desperate. Ukrainian intelligence says he’s now removed restrictions on the air campaign so they can target schools and hospitals.

Writing up a module curricula for the third time, but it is the first time where I've felt I really know in-depth almost everything that I am teaching on all the weeks. It's a nice feeling, given the sheer diversity of material that is being offered.

I think this ties into discussion on here yesterday about general behaviour in public places - our society is in certain specific ways becoming more aggressive, unpleasant and discourteous. Oddly, this has coincided with it becoming far less violent.

I am tired of people saying we can’t win in front of the Supreme Court. I’m annoyed by those who say my firm is too partisan to be effective. Today we won a huge redistricting fight before SCOTUS and a ballot access case before the Nebraska Supreme Court. The lesson: When we fight we win.

I strongly think this is priors based on generalities: if this was getting blanket coverage – which might be helped by the PM having come out strongly on it – I think the public would be much more strongly against it. Which is why it was such a failing to stay quiet. It will lead to more of this.
