I did a set of 'editor's desk' blogs to help ttrpg creators. This was the first: why people tend to overuse colons, and how understanding bullet lists can help to get them under control. silverbranch.co.uk/2025/03/cont... #ttrpgcreator
[Editor's desk] Controlling colons and dodging bullets
TTRPG and boardgame writers tend to throw around too many colons. A lot of it is about right and wrong ways to use bullets. Tim Gray explains.

It doesn't matter how well you, the author, understands the mechanics of your game if that information doesn't end up on the page. This is one of the biggest reasons to hire an editor. They'll be able to read the text and say, "This isn't clear. I don't know what to do here." 1/2
'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)
Fae: Behold, mor— Me, suspiciously: Are you AI? Fae: What? Me: Because you’ve got some weird looking feet Fae: What are you talking about Me: I don’t use AI, thanks. ::walks away:: Fae: What just happened

Well, actually, kinda, yeah, close to what happened. It's not for nothing that Jack Dorsey, who started the place and was on its board, basically ran away when the trans folks and furries scared off all the crypto bros he assumed would be the natural demographic here (they went to Nostr instead).
Bluesky often seems like a project run by tech people who place great value on its architectural differences from Twitter, which nobody cares about, while not understanding how they walked ass-backwards into having a userbase (whomst they fear and despise)
Leafing through the Invincible TTRPG from Free League. If you’re wondering, like I always do, how much this new superhero TTRPG lives in the shadow of the 1980s era TSR Marvel game, the answer this time is: VERY. FASRIP stat-cronym. Karma. Zones. Words+numbers for your stat ratings. Yyyep!
Today I have mostly been sorting through piles of papers that have been sitting in the study/office for far too long. Bit tedious, but hopefully makes forward-moving things easier.
The Ukrainian publisher of board games including Catan and Exploding Kittens is fighting for its existence after a Russian missile strike destroyed its warehouse, wiping out its entire stock of about 200,000 games: boardgamewire.com/index.php/20...
Ah man, this is very sad, I chatted with Ronnie Le Drew a few years back, researching a puppet-based comedy project and he was as lovely as you'd hope, *delighted* to talk about being Zippy and larking about as various Labyrinth goblins with David Bowie. RIP. www.independent.co.uk/arts-enterta...

During yesterday's Gen Con Tornado the roof above our booth sprung a small leak, but fortunately no harm was done. #RuneQuest was inducted into the ENNIES Hall of Fame at the Awards Ceremony the night before, so we'll just say this was the great Storm God Orlanth showing his approval.

Paging @paulbaldowski.bsky.social!
Oh hey, I think this is the first official word about my 2027 novel, THE REALM INVISIBLE. I took John Crowley and John le Carré as my guiding stars for this one. Elizabethan spies in the cold war between England and Spain, with, naturally, weird stuff happening. Edited by Jane Johnson.
