The anti-data center movement is like "I don't want to pay more money for a thing that will not benefit me at all and will actively make my life measurably worse in a bunch of ways" and the pro-data center movement is like "We want it to be illegal for you to not like us."

Finally got a bit of good academic news, with my abstract accepted for the @deldemucan.bsky.social summer school! Get to hang out with some brilliant people in February and test some ideas about deliberation as a transformative practice. Huzzah!
I have no illusions that the US political system can change, but this is good. Really good. It shouldn’t be so unusually good. Most political comms is just so bad that this basic sense stands out.

The morally correct response to “It’s antisemitic to call Netanyahu a war criminal” is “No it isn’t; that’s not true.” But some people are going to say, “Fine, I guess antisemitism has some explanatory power over the world after all.” And people who do this have to know that.
Joel S.@joelhs.bsky.social · 2w agoIt’s embarrassing that the rabbi of Central Synagogue - one of the most prominent Reform rabbis in the US - is portraying Mamdani’s accurate description of Netanyahu as a war criminal as a sign of antisemitism. This is part of why young people take antisemitism less seriously than they should.
Back on Ngarigo country, my favourite place. So ridiculously warm for mid winter, with not much snow for the snow gums. But still just stunningly beautiful. Good for the soul.
