Text messages and videos obtained by the ACLU show that federal immigration agents who carried out last year’s raids in L.A. referred to Latinos with slurs such as “wet” (wetback) and “tonks,” reportedly derived from the sound a flashlight makes when hitting a migrant’s head.

Immigration agents used racial slurs referring to Latinos in text messages, video obtained by ACLU

To entice you with weirdness: The first 10 people to donate $100 or more to @prismreports.org's fundraiser will get a Halloween-themed package from me! (I know it's July, but the real freaks know Summerween is the time to prep for spooky season.)

If you've worked with me in recent weeks as a freelancer, I've probably shared this news with you, though it's time to share it more broadly: @prismreports.org is in serious trouble, y'all. We have lost half a million dollars in philanthropic support & we have almost no secure funding for next year.

Fund the journalism you want to see in this world! If you don't have money to give, please consider circulating these appeals so they reach somebody who does. Word-of-mouth does wonders for independent news orgs.

I have a theory that when an immigration agency kills someone or engages in other forms of public state violence, DHS goes on a very transparent media blitz, ramping up its claims against so-called sanctuary cities and circulating more of its "worst of the worst" allegations against immigrants.

ICE agents shot and killed another person: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. He was an immigrant, and I hope his immigration status doesn’t stop the public from caring. I hope we don’t grow accustomed to these killings. I hope his family has the support they need to survive his death. I hope. I hope. I hope.

Andrea Shaw appeared on an online show by the Children’s Health Defense, an anti-vaccine group founded by Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. On the show, Shaw claimed flu vaccines killed her 18-month-old twins. However, she was just charged with murder. Shaw is accused of suffocating her twins.
