PSA: @ryanair.bsky.social hides a lot of, frankly, bullshit in their ToS. Double, triple, quadruple check—then check again—baggage terms, prices, “refund policy,” check-in requirements, window of check-in “opportunity,” required (glitchy) app use. Misleading, predatory practices. Boo!

Tom Savini is a fucking legend. And he lost everything. His home. His beloved pets. His life's work - work that served as the foundation of the horror we hold most dear. There isn't the character count to list his legacy here. If you can, please consider donating. www.gofundme.com/f/support-to...

By slashing teams that gather critical data, the Trump administration has left the federal government with no way of understanding if policies are working — and created a black hole of information whose consequences could ripple out for decades: propub.li/3RZzqHP 📽️: @josesepulveda.bsky.social

Mellon Foundation Announces $15 Million for Humanities Councils
The emergency funding came after the National Endowment for the Humanities canceled most existing grants, part of a pivot toward President Trump’s priorities.

Today we filed our appeal to the NEH for wrongful grant termination. They gave us a month to get everything together—how long for the decision, do you think? Big hat tip 🎩 to my colleagues at UVA!
For the Monday morning crowd: a 🧵on how to appeal your NEH grant termination. Please share with NEH grantees. I also summarized in a shareable google doc, available here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

NEH Grantees with Terminated Grants--the 30 day window for appeal is almost here. If your DOGE termination letter is dated April 2, then it is recommended to submit via eGMS by May 1. Having spoken w/ a number of sources, here's the best info I could gather on appealing your grant termination.
The great thing about fighting back against this stuff is that if you end up losing anyway you get the same outcome you’d have gotten from complying but you don’t have to fucking hate yourself too.
MIT following Harvard's lead here
Update: I've heard that approximately 135 of the ~185 NEH employees have been placed on administrative leave. (but awaiting more information). Even though we've seen this playbook enacted many times over the past few weeks, it's still shocking.
Hearing reports of NEH staff being put on administrative leave (not sure yet how many are impacted). Grantees—remember to use eGMS for all correspondence but that staff may have severe restrictions on access to email & work material. NEH staff—we appreciate you & we’re so sorry this is happening.
Sooo, our NEH-ODH grant was canceled… from a non-official email address. We are appealing (don’t make it easy!) and my colleagues at UVA are fighting for the project thru institutional channels. But I’ll be talking about our work at the #DHSI25 mini-colloquium in May!

There’s a person in #costco singing a cry to hawk these yummy nut packets—she has a lovely voice, and I can hear it in a few places throughout the store. 🎵 “8.99 a pack!” 🎶
If only there had been some sign of what sort of guy Trump is:
I’m taking a glaze chem class! It’s kicking my ass. Here’s my second quadraxial—hopefully a nice semi-matte glaze, dark, with some speckles. Probably not the most interesting colorants, but I’m being positive. :)

Still seeing lots and lots of folks posting things like “don’t they know how devastating this will be!” YES. THEY KNOW. It’s the WHOLE POINT.

Still processing this news. The very first work of lit crit I ever purchased was Madwoman. I was 19 & inspired by a course on feminist lit studies. I was not an English major. I did not know what a PhD was. That book was part of a swerve I was making—tho I didn’t know it yet. It was an invitation.
Finally assimilating this obit and this loss— a poet & critic meet in an Indiana elevator, and together reshape the fundamental structure of literary criticism and, in the process, the general ideological field of the world. What a beautiful legacy. RIP.
