The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.

Part of why LLMs will always give wrong information is because they do not *know* anything. They only put out a highly probable string of words, so they will always be susceptible to probability. So it will probably write 2+2=4, but there will never be a non-zero chance of spitting out 2+2=5.

TIL that even though the terminals, train stations, Google Map address, and most other ways you'd typically interact with Osaka Itami Airport are in Osaka prefecture, Itami City (which is where the runways and most of the total land area of the airport are) is part of Hyogo, not Osaka.

The adventures of the wonderfully multilingual and diverse, complex, world we live in. Today, I was reminded that Toma Jugo (当間重剛, Tōma Jūgō), head of the Gov't of the Ryukyu Islands 1956-1959, is also Spanish for "drink juice."

A Prime Minister who brags (?) about how she tends to sleep between 0 and 3 hours. Strikes me as worrying rather than awe-inspiring.

Having a surprisingly hard time finding any articles (academic or otherwise) on digital archives of Okinawan music. Anyone have any suggestions? (Articles in English or Japanese, from academic journals, popular magazines, or elsewhere) ゆたしくうにげーさびら!! 🙏

The states where mothers die most have banned or restricted abortion. That's no coincidence. Bans drive OB-GYNs out & force docs to delay care during miscarriages. CDC says >80% of these deaths are preventable. GOP calls this pro life. For women in these states pregnancy is terrifying. #ProudBlue
