Everything about the bikes in #Paris is amazing - reasonable bike rentals, part of the metro system: actually easier for my disabled wife to get around on than walking to bus stops or subway stations. Could have done without the police using the bike lane for zero apparent reason though.

For my medical appointment today I got a phone call and two texts. The texts told me to log into "MyHealth" which is (obviously) totally different from "AcessMyHealth" in "HealthGateway" which is meant to be a way to access all the different things but not this one. Finally got in to see ... 1/2

Generally excellent post, but it also reveals why it was a mistake to call RCP8.5 “misleading.” “The damages projected in these earlier climate simulations remain very much in play.” This means there is legitimate research to be done w high forcing pathways, whatever the scenario underneath. 1/2

It is also wrong to say that the worst predictions of climate impacts this century can now be ruled out by this revision. High-end temperature projections for the end of the century are reduced compared to earlier IPCC assessments. Yet, the IPCC WII report found that risks across the five
"reasons for concern" it examines have all risen for a given level of global warming. So, even if the high-end emissions in RCP8.5 won't materialize, the damages projected in these earlier climate simulations remain very much in play.

Two things can be true: • RCP8.5 was never a realistic "business as usual" scenario • The world has made real progress bending the emissions curve down Glen Peters, Piers Forster, and I explain in a new article: www.theclimatebrink.... 1/11

3 things to know about this: - Wheat is the 3rd largest crop in the US. - For the entire 12,000 year history of human agriculture, crops have never faced today's temperatures and conditions, created by pollution from burning oil, coal & gas. - Unlike food, there are replacements for fossil fuels.

‘The worst time for wheat’: US farmers face losses to extreme heat and drought

Temperature swings have left crops across the Plains in terrible conditions, with some farmers opting not to harvest

PSA to folks organizing work things with food- you want double or triple the number of vegetarian options as people who told you they are vegetarian, and same ratio for vegan. Sitting in an event right now where vegetarians didn't all get fed but there's a massive stack of uneaten meat sandwiches.

Researchers from University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa created a simple ocean-based model to predict El Niño and La Niña 15 months ahead using ocean surface temperature and height data. It achieves forecast skill similar to complex models. The current forecast predicts a strong El Niño later this year. 🌊

Simple ocean-based model forecasts El Niño skillfully, points to a strong event ahead

For decades, scientists have worked to improve predictions of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), a climate powerhouse that can cause droughts, flooding, marine heatwaves, and more around the world

Putting my grandkid to bed, after the light being off for a few minutes: "Grandpa why can I see now?" "Well did you know your eyes have different kinds of" ... (pause for a second while I wonder how to explain cells in 3.5 year old) ... "Grandpa, I think my eyes adjusted" "Uh, yes"

How did your bike enrich your life, fix your finances, or change your family's daily routine? A Stanford study showed stories are 22x more memorable than facts. If we want to get people out of cars, throwing emissions stats at them won't cut it. Humans need stories. Tell me yours. 👇

Today is Trans Day of Visibility and I’m thinking about the trans people in my life- their courage, joy, and defiance in the face of a hostile government bent on erasure and elimination. Trans people deserve so much better. We all need to demand better for them.

Here's the final version with all the bluesky responses added after I closed it just now. Some great responses here, including the few I disagree with (they are important perspectives to acknowledge). I'll argue about some of them a bit later.

Some great responses - thanks to all who responded. I'll keep this open at pollev.com/cccs for the rest of today but this is perfect to illustrate what I was hoping for at the conference I'm presenting at Monday. I disagree with some of the responses but all are important perspectives to include.

"Adaptation is ______" - now on PollEV hat tip to @katharinehayhoe.com for this idea - y'all can respond directly at pollev.com/cccs for the weekend. Note it's a PollEV word cloud so single word answers only or add a dash between if your answer needs two words. Answer as many times as you like :)

Ok #climatesky friends, need input for word cloud at an upcoming talk where I won't be able to poll the audience live. Adaptation is ______ ? What are all the ways you would complete that sentence? (Or if you've done a similar poll & are willing to share the results I would love to see that too)
