Hi I’m Travis. I’m a lefty full-stack dev in Virginia. My friend and I run cheerfulghost.com. You may recognize me as @nottravisnewman on Twitter

There are 3 kinds of Bluesky user: 1. Was just kicked in the head by a horse 2. Raised in Plato's cave where they were only shown 2010s tumblr posts 3. Normal

I feel like Bluesky never got a good algorithm going for the home feed and twitters is just getting worse. We are in the “everything sucks” portion of the web

A someone who has written extensively about the eugenic roots that permeates those who claim to be building so-called artificial general intelligence, I'm here to tell you to please NOT compare criticism against corporations claiming to build a machine god, with eugenics. The audacity.

if you're writing a sentence that sounds like eugenics but you go "oh that's fine to say because it's not a real person" (whatever that means) you may want to consider what made you okay with saying that.

an unfortunate irony about this post - and even if you are the staunchest anti-ai critic out there, i think you’d agree - is that some of the most bigoted things are being said to respond to this. copy/pasting phrasing and terminology used by bigots but replacing “dna” with “bits” doesn’t make it ok

You ever unfollow someone who is amusing, insightful, kind, interesting, or all of the above, who just posts sooooo much it dominates your feed?

Kirk’s ‘memorial’ getting a live coverage on The Guardian is a great example of how the right gets automatically framed as the default political movement to be ‘understood’ while the victims of that same movement never will never get the same amount of coverage
