A waterfall high in the Cairngorm Mountains (in the Highlands of Scotland), a place very dear to me. ❤️🩹 I've been going there my whole life. I truly hope the recent rainfall has helped to dampen down the terrible wildfire there. #WaterfallWednesday #Cairngorms #Scotland #Alba #ScottishHighlands

1/2 António Guterres is right: a strengthening El Niño is adding fuel to a planet already on fire. With Pacific monitoring regions surging nearly 3°C above normal, treating extreme heat as a mere seasonal anomaly is reckless. How much worse must it get? 🌡️ #ClimateCrisis

It’s hot across Europe right now. Millions of us are feeling it - in cities, towns, and villages across the continent. When heatwaves hit, small actions matter ⬇️
Good to be back from our important research trip exploring the balls of other libraries.
Today is Venn Day, in celebration of the mathematician John Venn, born on this day in 1834. To commemorate the occasion, here’s a poem in the form of a Venn Diagram.
Rather than allowing humanists to contribute to Radio 4's Thought for the Day, the BBC's current format requires all speakers to frame political and current affairs commentary through a religious or scriptural lens. Yet half of the UK is non-religious so why not let us speak?
A slight fall in alcohol-specific deaths is welcome—but deaths remain far above pre-pandemic levels. In the BMJ, Dr Beccy Cooper MP highlights the evidence that minimum unit pricing works to save lives. She asks the question: how much longer can England justify waiting? www.bmj.com/content/bmj/...
Andy Burnham correctly points out in an interview that small boat crossings are massively down this year compared with last. The comments in the post are filled with people suggesting he is lying about this very clear, data-evidenced fact. It’s almost as though they don’t want it to he true…
My Mum (who is digitally very literate, but keeps a tight hold of the purse strings…) has been watching the coverage in Gaelic. It’s quite a lot to expect of an 88 year old, but she assures me “I could tell when they were getting excited!” Sad that she couldn’t just watch it. #CommonwealthGames
The limited mainstream media coverage of the successful Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games is concerning, as it seems to downplay the significance of the event hosted by the country that originated this important institution. Instead of highlighting the long-standing..1/3
There are numerous examples of the UK consistently making detrimental decisions, with no lessons learned, often championed by Tory right wing driven governments. Today, for instance,a report on BBC highlighted how South Korea has now become a preferred destination for health and medical treatment.1/5
Warm and sunny this morning in Ness Gardens. Borders still thriving and some interesting wildlife. Coffee and carbs in the cafe.
"Now, in politics, a good rule of thumb is: don't say you want to do anything like Hitler." Also, he did warn us.

Every time Donald Trump publicly insults or demeans women reporters, it's about far more than one interaction. It's a pattern that normalizes misogyny, rewards intimidation, and conditions everyone else in the room to stay silent. That is how undue influence works. @FactPost @nowthisimpact
As a person who has honed the craft of delivering exceptional meeting notes in my three-decade career, yes. This is it. It's not about accurate transcrption or content capture. It's about a clear, brief synthesis of the meaningful discussion and action items in context. And it is not simple.
Love this. And as the person tasked with proofreading AI meeting notes, if it's not done same day by a human, incorrect and sometimes opposite decisions will be recorded quite often. Apps can't make sense of how humans use double negatives, repeat words midthought, or say things like "yeah, no"
