“DAC at the scale needed is mostly a fantasy” It is VERY USEFUL for scientists to say this out loud, as much as possible, since blind faith in carbon removal is one of the baseless ideologies justifying the continuation of fossil-fuel use among global policymakers.

DAC at the scale needed is mostly a fantasy. It might have some marginal use in sopping up the last dregs of CO2 emissions (if that), but the main job is still to get emissions down by at least 90%. But however expensive it turns out to be, it should be the fossil fuel companies that pay for DAC,

People think Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) is a promising CO₂ removal method because in ocean models, we just magically increase alkalinity with no consequences. In reality, excessive alkalinity addition can lead to calcium carbonate precipitation, drastically reducing OAE efficiency. 🌊🧪

Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) is a promising approach for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by increasing seawater alkalinity. However, the ef...

Interesting how widespread subsidies and support for carbon capture and synthetic direct air capture are when not one peer-reviewed paper in the world shows, when the whole system and opportunity costs are considered, either reduces any CO2 from the air. Multiple papers show CC+DAC increase CO2.

Some good news (with caveats), as data shows rates of deforestation fell last year. www.businessgreen.com/news/4528929...

Biomass Energy Carbon Capture and Storage is a match made in heaven for greenwashing energy companies. We know CCS is lucrative fantasy, but this paper shows sticking a hat on a biomass plant won’t make BECCS carbon negative for hundreds of years even if you squint. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Governments are considering subsidies for bioenergy with carbon capture and storage fuelled by wood from existing forests. However, a transparent model estimates that this will probably increase emiss...
