A lot of people are not well right now: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This is an excellent time to de-escalate conflicts and to lean into patience. This is true in our personal lives and also (maybe especially) online when it's overwhelmingly strangers crashing into each other.

AI has exposed the austerity con game in higher ed. For years, we have been told there is no money for students, faculty, staff, capital improvements, libraries. But somehow universities have suddenly come up with the money to pay for AI services??
Nice campaign by the Norwegian Consumer Council about the declining lifespan of products. Enjoy!

The fact that Musk himself is sponsoring so many of the anti-trans ads this cycle presents a pretty golden opportunity for Dems to point out that of course the guy who literally wants to build a gas-powered data center in your backyard wants this election to be about trans people.
Stephan Root is always a good casting decision.
Stephen Root has won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for ‘WIDOWS BAY’ at the Emmys.
I’m glad for her. The montage of her character escorting a jason-like slasher’s corpse to be cremated with a shotgun is the funniest thing I’ve seen on tv in years

Cis people do not understand how much trans people's rights have regressed in just 5 years. 5 years ago, there were none of these restrictions. 19 states banned legal recognition 21 states have bathroom bans 8 states ban gender marker changes on DLs 25 ban gender affirming care for trans youth
in 30 years people are going to wonder how we got caught up in the AI extinction hysteria while a real mass extinction was happening and we did very little to stop it
I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

Happening now in the Chicago suburb of Franklin Park: Community members have gathered to commemorate the 1-year anniversary of the death of local resident Silverio Villegas González, whom an as-yet unidentified ICE agent shot and killed on this block at the start of "Operation Midway Blitz."
it’s wild that the heritage foundation wrote in text that the assault on trans woman particularly in sports is their first step in their efforts to completely abolish all Title IX protections and liberals still don’t believe it’s about more than trans women in sports
Every worst thing that came from 9/11, that I still grieve so much it feels like my parents died again, was done by Americans. All these years and the cancer is still spreading. The nonstop feast of stupidity and sadism, the lust for genocide, the hatred of love and innocence. Damn our terrorists.
25 years ago today America was attacked by zero Afghans, zero Iranians and zero Iraqis.
9/11 ANOTHER WORLD WAS POSSIBLE We could have responded by putting the terrorists on trial—as the overwhelming majority of our NATO allies’ population (and the rest of the world) wanted. Instead, we responded with war—just what the terrorists wanted. It made them warriors, not criminals.
we don’t teach young people short-term history, so it was weird when i realized that gen z had no idea that so many gen x and millennials spent our high school years protesting george w bush and not just because of the wars, but because mosques were being targeted and sikh men were being attacked
There are already articles circulating trying to rewrite history and say America was great after 9/11 and united and thoughtful and just a reminder that that period was marked by intense and insanely racist hatred, paranoia, and a frothing desire for unhinged violence and oppression.
"But soon, we won't even investigate further. We will be told it's true. And if the machine is in the hands of somebody who should not be trusted, then your reality has been completely and utterly fucked. Because your intelligence ends at the question. You don't seek the answer. It's given to you."

Periodic reminder that your "concerns" about trans people are being beamed directly into your head by a small cadre of incredibly rich psychopaths.
Shout out to everyone who said it was just a temporary distraction and not a central organizing principle of modern fascism.
I think AI boosters ought to be careful not to conflate AI skeptics refusing to use AI on principle with not believing AI has any practical use cases.
*sigh* I'm getting so tired of Democrats doing weird-ass anti-trans vice signaling to appeal to Republicans.
Last week an attorney sent me chatGPT output (a Federal litigation search for a company) and asked me to verify. I did a PACER search. It took one, maybe two minutes. Not only had chat missed a case, THERE IS ALREADY AN EASY, *ACCURATE* TOOL FOR THIS QUERY.
Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work* Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!
