I’ve said this before but the gift of AI is it’s allowing us to finally discard all of these venerated bloated grandfathers who wrote one great movie 40 years ago and still refuse to leave the industry. Bring on a generation of hungry storytellers that want to be authentic.

[DET. ICE-T VOICE]: "Yo, you tellin' me there's dudes who could've gotten vaccinated? At low cost or for free? For preventable diseases? And they didn't? Because they thought the government was putting microchips in their blood? And re-writing their DNA? Yo, that's some sick shit, man."

When old SVU episodes don’t hold up in modern times.

Life comes at you fast. One minute you're an unknown health economist rushing to publish a hasty study of COVID incidence in Santa Clara and the next thing you know you're signing away a good fraction of the NIH's budget to the Department of Defense.

Bhattacharya post on X.

NIH funds should be used to improve the health of Americans.

Far from siphoning money away from research, this partnership between @NIH and @ DeptofWar focuses on research projects that will drive discoveries to improve the health of American citizens and members of the military.

“We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected...When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work, because they are increasingly viewed as the villains. We want their funding to be shut down…We want to put them in trauma.” -Russell Vought

After DOGE layoffs & record cuts, Trump’s freezing the pay of all our civil servants in 2027. With 3.4% inflation, this amounts to a pay cut for those who care for our veterans, process benefits, & deliver essential services. Congress must pass the FAIR Act & override this decision.

Name your five least favorite movies … I’m sure if I thought harder I might come up with others but these tend to be ones I’ll rant about 1) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2) Mank 3) Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher) 4) Watchmen 5) Revenge of the Nerds

Sean lives in the UK, hardly ever travels, and as far as I know communicates with writers he works with solely via email. It is very possible to work with a problematic person on a book for years and not know, because you’re working in isolation! See also: Colleen Doran and Gaiman

4 Movies for Structure - Shaun of the Dead (we studied this for structure in my screenwriting program) - The Limey (taught this when talking about non-linear storytelling) - Willow - Hot Fuzz (RomCom and Mystery/Buddy Cop Procedural structure all in one silly package)

What 4 movies would you recommend people study to learn story structure? Mine? • Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse • Jurassic Park • Casablanca • Terminator 2: Judgement Day

#WIPSnips “garden” Phillipe is a minor supporting character in Kaleidoscope. He works security in the JFK Spaceport and in this is thinking about the time he had a short vacation on “Space Vegas.” #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

When Phillipe had visited the water park was closed for "maintenance." A child had drowned and safety protocols were being revisited. He spent most of the time sitting in the Pacific Northwest themed garden. At the time he'd been stationed in space without setting foot on Earth for over two years. He had needed to see trees and touch dirt. He loved working with people like Andrew and the Lieutenant, but in the end Space Force just had too much space. He needed to be on the ground.
Phillipe joined Janis at the passport control. She was reviewing an older man's passport and inquiring about his reasons for traveling to Sina. Phillipe signed into his terminal. He waved over a tall woman with a cybernetic arm. She presented her passport and he ran a check on her through the system. His terminal flickered for a moment. That was unusual.

The image behind the text is a border that is dark blue with gold stars with a black background with neon blue border. An illustrated caticorn holding a pencil and writing in a book with a rose behind one ear is in the lower right corner. A different version of the same illustrated caticorn is curled up writing in the lower left corner

This is a long one, so bear with me. As a computer scientist, I do not use LLMs for code gen/learning topics, because I find the ethical issues around data centers, copyright theft/devaluation of labor, and the monopolization of data by large corporations abhorrent. 🧵

Please be vocal about not using AI. We have to normalize it. No "I'm not going to say that because it should be assumed. I'm not going to give them this". We don't have time for that shit ideological shit right now. NOW is the time to capitalize on waning favorability. Ppl want human made

#AwesomeCharacters I don’t know if I would really want to swap with most of the Kaleidoscope main characters. Maybe Akachi early in the story? I think I would probably mess up some of her things. I’m not that competent. She might improve things for me and others while she’s here.

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters You have to swap places with one of your characters for one week. You take their place and they take yours. No one else can tell. Who are you picking and why? Will it minimize problems in both directions? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
