"The reported investigation appears to be a pretext for seeking records from the networks about how they are covering daily White House events during a media ban the president himself put in place."

In response to the reported DOJ investigation of the White House press pool, @rcfp.org President Bruce D. Brown called it "another and even more brazen attempt to try to intimidate journalists." Read the full statement: https://www.rcfp.org/statement-doj-investigating-press-pool/

No doubt this has occurred to other bystanders as well, but it would seem that a handful of billionaires dropping $150 million into a single state's election in an attempt to defeat a wealth-tax initiative just about makes the entire case for a wealth-tax initiative.

11 October 1884: New Straitsville mine fire

On this day, 11 October 1884, one of the longest-burning fires in the world began when striking mine workers set fire to the New Straitsville mine in Ohio. Miners employed by the Columbus & Hocking Coal and Iron Company had walked out on strike in June, and mine bosses hired scab replacement workers in their place. To prevent the mines from operating, a group of unknown people set fire to mine cars and pushed them into six mines in the area, setting them on fire. The employers attempted to put the fire out but failed, and in the 1930s the government attempted to create barriers to slow the fire, but were also unsuccessful. At points, fires lept over 30 m into the air and could be seen for miles around. Thousands of tourists came to the area and even paid 25 cents to see local guides cook eggs and heat coffee over the subterranean fire. So far over 200 square miles of coal deposits have been burned, and the fire is still burning today (2022). Pew's poll is particularly notable because of its massive sample size; an N of just over 5,000 survey respondents. One particularly interesting finding on immigration is that the issue has slightly lost salience for Republicans and gained significant salience for Democrats since the 2022 midterms.

Table: Compared with 2022, Republican and Democratic voters priorities in 2026 have shifted in different directions on many issues, including the economy.

On immigration, 76% of Republican Registered Voters (RVs) in 2022 rated the issue as "very important for their vote for Congress." That has now dropped to 72% in 2026. By contrast, it was at 36% for Democrats in 2022, and is now up to 53%, a net 17 percent increase.

The biggest issue, however, continues to be the economy. 92% of Republicans rated the economy as important in 2022, but that's now dropped to 82%. The next highest issue for Republicans is immigration at 72%, followed by the future of democracy at 69%, then violent crime at 64%.

For Democrats, 65% rated the economy as very important in 2022, and that's now 88%, the highest issue, beating out the future of democracy (85%), healthcare (82%), and education (74%).

A new Pew Research Center poll has Trump’s approval rating plunging to just 30% — his lowest showing in a high-quality poll this term. His previous low was 31% in a recent AP-NORC poll. A whopping 68% of Americans now disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job.

Yes, Medicare for All will increase your taxes...but not as much as you pay in insurance Yes, Medicare for All will likely mean you jettison your private insurance...but your private insurance sucks...and you KNOW IT DOES 👇

Medicare for All will cost LESS than our current system.

A recent study by Yale epidemiologists found that Medicare for All would save around 68,000 lives a year while reducing U.S. health care spending by around 13%, or $450 billion a year.
Medicare for All spending would be approximately $37.8 trillion between 2017 and 2026, according to a study by the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. That amounts to about $5 trillion in savings over that time. These savings would come from reducing administrative costs and allowing the government to negotiate prescription drug prices.
Other studies by think tanks and government agencies have analyzed single-payer proposals at the state and federal levels. Most found Medicare for All would reduce our total health care spending.
Even a study by the Koch-funded Mercatus Center found that Medicare for All would save around $2 trillion over a 10-year period.
With Medicare for All, most families would spend less on health care than they do now on premiums, copays and deductibles.

Some additional taxes would be needed to pay for Medicare for All, but most Americans would spend less on health care than they do right now.
Overall, working families that make around $60,000 a year would pay up to 14% lessen their annual health care costs.
