This is the highest-resolution view of the surface of the Sun. Ever. Taken by the NSF's Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, features as small as 19 km across can be resolved. The wispy things are magnetic field boundaries formed by Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities. The island of Ireland for scale.

Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities confirmed on sun thru observation of solar surface for first time. Always neat to see learn about stuff in the wild that I initially learned about in a nuclear weapons context (KHI). Also, a good chunk of weapons physicists were astrophysicists.

There was just a locally acquired case of dengue fever reported in Virginia, USA. The climate is becoming more suitable, the compatible mosquito species (Aedes) is already there, and we’ll likely see more cases across a wider area. Link: tinyurl.com/2pu4xrc5
