Three different companies. Three different hiring managers. Each one told me a version of the same thing when I followed up on my application: “OMG, I wrote you the declination email and forgot to click the send button, sorry bye.” vancura.dev/articles/99-... #DesignEngineering #JobSearch

Ten months. Roughly a hundred applications. Fifty-three declined, forty-four never replied, and ten I walked away from. This is what looking for work at forty-seven looked like.

I guess my body needs to make a game again. Tell me, is the Steam Deck good? Frankly, I am more a gamedev than a player. I enjoy creating worlds rather than playing games, but I would love to have a device that I can go to the pub with and brainstorm on.

Let’s continue with Windows, particularly WinUI/Fluent. Shadows are interesting: they appear to rotate in 3D around the X-axis. The top part of the shadow is closer to the window edge than the bottom part.

A high-contrast image of the Windows window shadow reveals that it's a bit rotated.

High contrast themes in macOS Tahoe are quite unfinished, and I hope they will be improved. For example, traffic lights have two inner strokes: one normal 0.5pt stroke (used in all themes) and another HC-only 1pt stroke. See the image ALT descriptions for more details. FB18296718

A zoomed screenshot of macOS Tahoe traffic lights in high contrast light theme. The thicker inner strokes are much darker than the outer stroke, which makes the control look blurry. The Close button uses an almost invisible red, while the other two buttons are black.A zoomed screenshot of macOS Tahoe traffic lights in high contrast dark theme. This is even worse; two strokes actually reduce readability, creating a sort of poor-man's blur.

I should introduce myself. I’ve had a lot of roles, but the more interesting was as a Design Lead for Xamarin Studio and Visual Studio for Mac (though I worked on other Xamarin and Microsoft developer tools). In recent years, I switched to #gamedev. You can play a game we made on Steam for free:
