The acting attorney general’s conversation with Trump appears to have taken place just hours after the president publicly mused about pulling Blanche’s nomination and instead trying to push through a fund that could be used to compensate Jan. 6 rioters and others who claim to have been persecuted by the Biden administration. Announcements at the beginning and end of the Intercessors for America call stated that it was “not intended for press purposes.” A speaker told attendees that the call was “not on the record” and directed any journalists on the line to hang up. POLITICO was not on the call on Thursday when it took place and did not agree to any limits on reporting. Audio of the session was posted on YouTube by Intercessors for America, which calls itself “the largest national prayer ministry dedicated to praying for our government and leaders.” As of Monday, the recording remained publicly accessible.

it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun

Love this news. I have the series on disc and have seen it *many* times (I was very lucky to be a teen in the late 90s and watch this series as it came out via fansubs). It also will cripple all of our robotic missions beyond Earth’s orbit. The DSN was already oversubscribed - time and bandwidth books out months in advance - and there simply is no substitute for it. The Spain station is 1/3 of the DSN.

I’d like to make it clear for all the people following me what the sheer gravity of the news is. Without this facility we can’t ensure constant communication with spacecraft beyond Earth orbit. If this facility is off-line, the Artemis program cannot send a crew to the Moon.

Adding another Greek food protip about greens here - if you have a boatload of greens that you don't know how to cook but you know how to make spanakopita, you can sub in just about ANY greens or mix of greens for the spinach. Essentially that's hortopita.

Exactly right! My entire ancestry would not be alive if it weren't for cooked, foraged greens. Horta every day, boiled steamed or braised, but it's been cooked. (On the menu this time of year: Purslane or amaranth horta, plenty of vinegar!) And collard greens keep us good company year round.

The winds shifted today enough here for Massachusetts that we have blue skies and clear air today. A relief for my kid who has been in outdoor camp all week (and for me, who was worried about her). I know it's a temporary reprieve. Thinking of everyone in Canada who are affected by these fires.
