I follow so many bookshops all over the world. I can’t help it, it’s a drug. I especially love the “I’m opening a [special niche]” bookshop stories where they’re painting rooms and stocking shelves. And the algorithm has sure found me on multiple platforms.

Best thing about being a writer is when someone says “what’s the best way to dispose of a body in a cold environment?” it doesn’t even cross your mind they’re doing something nefarious. Research!

I jettisoned three TV streaming services in favour of five new SFF magazine subscriptions. I feel much better.

The way indie music is seen as 'cool' and indie films are seen as 'embracing the craft without selling out' while indie books are seen as 'didn't get trad published' gives me feelings. Really crunchy feelings. The snobbery makes zero sense and instantly tells me someone isn't worth listening to.

So this...there should be entire three-day conferences dedicated to talking about this for us to express complex feelings around it. And even publishers/agents will admit they aren't gatekeeping for quality, they're gatekeeping for mass sales potential, and they reject books they love all the time.
