fun new development at work: students aggressively arguing with me when i try to explain to them that the library is not the bookstore (and therefore i cannot help them with their textbook order)

@savasavasava.myatproto.social hey I’ve been asking around and it just now occurred to me you are probably a good person to ask directly: do you have a/any media literacy textbook/s you could recommend? I’m teaching info lit again at the library, and I want to integrate more media literacy.

I’m learning that the brain is *actually* still developing until age 32. And given what we know about perimenopause and what it does to your brain, I just want all the ladies in their 30s to just REALLY enjoy that decade.

Shoutout to the poll workers holding it down today. During a time when the right to vote feels under attack like never before and public trust in our elections is under fire, these public servants are showing up with integrity to make sure their neighbors get to make their voices heard.

Mamdani has announced that NYC restaurants can have outdoor dining all year round. This is actually a big public health win because fall and winter is when respiratory virus cases surge. Dining outdoors helps reduce the risk of disease spread.

Rain or shine, sun or snow, you can now break bread outdoors year-round. Thanks to @cmrestler.bsky.social’s work, our favorite restaurants will no longer have to tear down and rebuild their setups each year. It’s official: Outdoor dining is here to stay.

Mayor Mamdani and Council Member Lincoln Restler celebrate the signing of the outdoor dining bill. Caption: New York — we have good news on the menu. Year-round outdoor dining is here to stay.

oh no! here i am to tell you that you can hate true crime as a genre BUT it has greatly expanded to include all kinds of stories of oppression and mistreatment and injustice! OH NO!!!! EVERYTHING, IT TURNS OUT, IS COMPLICATED AND REQUIRES A NUANCED UNDERSTANDING!!!!! OH NOESSSS

📣 My lab at NYU currently has two open post-doc positions. We are interested in understanding perception, thinking, and hallucinations. We employ a range of cutting-edge techniques in human neuroscience (e.g., 7T fMRI, MEG, iEEG/DES) and computational approaches (e.g., DNN modeling).

ok now that i'm done with TMS i gotta get on HRT because my level of crankiness with the entire world is just not sustainable. i just want to break things. often over peoples' heads.

lololol someone just called to sell me on a product & they were excited touting its AI features and I cut him off and said, "yeah we're not looking to introduce genAI products into our workflow at all right now, so i'm afraid that's an immediate disqualifier for me." the disappointment in his voice!

I need to purchase a super up-to-date and ON POINT media literacy textbook, but they are all very, very expensive, so I can only get one. I don’t suppose any of you have one in particular you’d recommend?

“Lost media” no longer! I finally got permission to upload “AL’S BRAIN,” an 11-minute educational 3-D film attraction which ran at the Orange County and Western Washington fairs, and hasn’t been seen publicly since 2009. You can watch the whole thing here: youtu.be/2xujU87ZHt4
