Tragic. My heart goes out to her friends, family, and colleagues. The first incident of this type (transportation planner killed by car) that stuck with me was a local one, where an LA Metro transportation planner died crossing street in 2020. www.legacy.com/us/obituarie...

Friends in LA please vote Nithya Raman for mayor, she'll be fantastic making LA more affordable through a strong pro-housing policy. For all in CA please vote Tom Steyer for governor, he's got the best policy agenda for CA's future plus voting for him keeps a competitive general election.

I could not finish this episode. It starts with common and sad reality of an unsuspecting victim getting struck by a car. Then Dr Tai describes in painstaking detail the victim’s condition, how it impacts the individual and their family. It just kept getting more depressing until I turned it off.

Even if AI had one redeeming feature (it doesn’t) it would not be worth the millions of horrible things it’s doing. Garbage for the environment, accountability, critical thinking and steals work from creative professionals.

Far from perfect but I wish critics would appreciate how much advocates overcame to develop a grassroots design (search “Beautiful Boulevard”) that included protected bike lanes, dedicated bus lanes, and landscaped medians in Eagle Rock. Original proposals had no bike lanes and killed medians.

Was looking at those renderings of the NoHo-Pasaena BRT in LA and oh boy, North American engineers do really hate pedestrian (or even traffic) islands. Just infinite monster-sized ped crossing that last 30+ seconds and come every 2-3 minutes probably... And forget about truncated-red TSP...

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is posting before/after pics of some of the city’s street transformations and I am reminded we could have this in Los Angeles too. In fact we did for a few hours during ArroyoFest. If only there were political will to fully ban cars from the Arroyo Seco Parkway!

The first modern “Class II” bike lane in Los Angeles dates from about 1974 and the first time car lanes were eliminated to make space for bike lanes happened in 1979 and 1980. When were the first bike lanes painted in your city? Or when were car lanes converted to bike lanes?

I love my e-bike, it is a necessity to avoid sweating on my commute or when riding the hills of my neighborhood with cargo. But when I get the chance to pick up lunch or dinner in my neighborhood I prefer to use my regular bike.
