this is in many ways a much more significant geopolitical weapon than Iran actually having a nuclear weapon, which can’t be used the way closing the strait can they will never give it up now that they know they have it

The age file header is sent to the client, which decrypts it using typage's new passkey support (github.com/FiloSottile/...) and sends back the file key. The server decrypts the password with it and mounts the dataset. I can use it from my phone via iCloud Keychain, or could use YubiKeys, too!

A friend got her (Android) phone stolen and the thieves were able to quickly pivot into her Google account and then bank. I’ve been wondering how they did that and my best guess is SMS password resets (aka SMS 1FA). So yeah, SIM PINs (or eSIMs) might help. Also no text body on lock screens.
