I listen to many different podcasts, many of which I dip in and out of, but one which I always listen to is @warmovietheatre.com - it’s an absolute belter for anyone like me that grew up watching war films. They’re not afraid to pull some of them apart either!

Stumbled across @warmovietheatre.com here yesterday and currently listening to my 4th episode already! Good fun - and a far wider remit than you might expect (“Independence Day” & 2024 “Civil War” included alongside “Sink the Bismark!” & “The Dam Busters”. Well worth a listen.
one of my favourite lines, just listening to the pod now. eminently quotable and it came out when I was a student, so you can imagine it worked very well back then. Everett McGill was a bit of a thing back then, having been Stilgar in Lynch's Dune; he absolutely nails the asshole role here:
Can't remember how many years ago I saw this, but I think I spent most of it trying to work out why it was called that. And then: Grenada? Really? The only other film where I've seen Grenada even mentioned is Die Hard 2... "Five minutes of fire fights, five weeks of surfing..."

I do recommend listening & subscribing to @warmovietheatre.com podcast... There is one of the best off the cuff satirical comments in the independence day episode - although if you're American probably skip this episode
The film that removed the insure and adds the ensure... Highly recommend the @warmovietheatre.com TG / TG:M double bill

Last week's episode of @warmovietheatre.com on Independence Day with @jonnelledge.bsky.social is one of the funniest podcasts I've listened to in a long time. Well worth a listen if you like discussions on fun silly movies! open.spotify.com/episode/27yh...

If you ever wondered why the alien ships in Independence Day had an MS Windows compatible operating system, this episode of @warmovietheatre.com is for you. And, if “Broadsword calling Danny Boy” means anything to you, their back catalogue is well worth your time.

Quick repost of this to commemorate the upcoming 100th episode. @warmovietheatre.com If you like political reporters discussing films, or people just discussing the acting career of Stephen "Slartibartfast and Kevin the Teenagers Dad" Moore, give it a download #GiveAPlugWinAMug

I'm curious: do fans of @warmovietheatre.com podcast A: (re)watch the relevant movie BEFORE that week's episode drops? Or B: listen to the episode, for all Rob and Duncan's definitive intel, and THEN (re)watch the film?

This is an important point that Rob only checked after the recording. Apologies to all concerned.
I would like to pedantically point out that George HW Bush's comrades were killed and eaten by their Japanese captors rather than any pacific islanders. The Japanese commanding officer was later tried and executed. /pedant

Independence Day was actually released on the 3rd of July so that the heroic fight back was what was going to happen tomorrow. I saw it at the cinema in Canada and there was one of the biggest cheers in history when the White House went up!

This is the amazing spin-off that @duncanweldon.bsky.social discusses in the pod.
OK... i am going in... But despite the pro-american leanings of the film, did you know there was a BBC Radio1 drama broadcast as a promotion that features Patrick Moore taking on one of the Aliens in hand to Hand combat (in a scene that Emmerich must have been disappointed to have missed).
I am cheap, I am plugging @warmovietheatre.com for a mug !!! But seriously one of my fave pods !!! Please give it a go
All they needed to do was include the line from the original script (which I believe was filmed) where they explain that ALL our computer technology is based on the alien technology from 1947 and so that is why an Apple Powerbook is compatible with the mothership.
Time to whoop ET's ass! Happy Birthday America month continues with Independence Day, a film in which aliens destroy America (and a number of other countries too unimportant to mention). With special guest @jonnelledge.bsky.social champ.ly/E5Jq45dq
