Lots of people think Taylor Lorenz is paid off by social media but I think the relationship is closer to a Chaos cultist: she worships Phone, works tirelessly to spread the influence of Phone and weaken the veil between the real world and it’s domain, and in exchange she is given boons by it.

Can social media be addictive? @taylorlorenz.bsky.social says no. “You wanting to communicate and chat with your friends every day is not an addiction,” says Lorenz. “And to frame it that way is incredibly harmful and anti-science.”

coming back to bluesky has been a breath of fresh air. for a while there before I got off, the deranged weirdo population of Twitter had become entirely "a guy is doing gooner race science on SpongeBob" whereas bluesky has the 2010s era "a person enthusiastically refusing to read is very mad at you"

It's a little weird how, on a website of Politics Enthusiasts, we regularly have discourse driven entirely by people inexplicably deciding that the only politicians that tell the truth about their feelings are underdog Democrats ducking a controversial issue

If you downgrade the ai doomer scenario from "AI nukes everyone" to "1000s of malicious AI agents escape containment and wreck our ability to use networked computers over the course of a few weeks, killing hundreds of millions of people from supply and electricity disruption" 10% seems reasonable

not to push back on the narrative a bit but Arday would have been like a 3 day story if he had merely fabricated all of his research, the story was kept alive by Arday having also told approximately 9 billion bonkers lies about every aspect of his life.

Who would like to guess why UK, US and European media outlets are not publishing 3,000 articles per minute about this www.dukechronicle.com/article/duke...

it seems the biggest takeaway from the Arday situation for liberal institutions is that if Cambridge hadn't covered for him when multiple other professors brought proof of plagerism back in 2023, the story wouldn't have been broken by right wing freaks on a racism substack

I for one think it's awesome that polling cant even get close if a race is contentious. lets us have our discourse cake and eat it too. This woke 1 thing has been great, and now we get to do the other side of the debate.
