Since launching 'Suivre la couleur des milieux humides au Québec' in May '26 we've already received 525 photos from citizen scientists across our first 9 sites! Not only is this a fun project to help understand seasonal change in wetlands, but it helps raise awareness of these important ecosystems!

Not to be outdone, Tracking the Colour of Peatlands (#PeatColours) is now in its third year. We've had over 1000 photos so far this year. I love seeing people engage with peatlands, sharing their photos and helping us understand their dynamics through the dataset that is being produced!

Left the peatlands behind this week and got to work in this beautiful freshwater marsh! My new masters student Maya will be measuring GHG fluxes using our new stackable chambers as part of the CARBONIQUE project Lots of fieldwork this summer (which always bring a little stress) but a lot of fun!

Another productive week in the field doing carbon inventories and collecting peat cores (led by C Paleo lab) while my new PhD student Renaud and I got to grips with some new field spectroscopy equipment for his project. Still feel very lucky to be able to work in these beautiful landscapes

📢 We’re excited to launch: Suivre la couleur des milieux humides au Québec (Tracking the Colour of Wetlands in Quebec) as part of the CARCLIQUE Research Chair. Building on Tracking the Colour of Peatlands, the network now includes a wider range of Quebec wetlands.

I'm looking for a post-doc to work on the interaction between past hydrological changes and vegetation in a disturbed peatland, using paleoecological and modelling approaches. The post-doc duration is 18 months and start date is any time before Jan 2027. DM if you are interested / have questions! 🌿🧪

These are cute drosera plants. They are carnivorous and live in peatlands. The picture shows these red plants that have a rounded shape and sticky tentacles. They are about 3 cm high.
