Statements from Indigenous leaders and Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford seem to strongly suggest that the Ontario government is preferentially engaging with affected communities that are not publicly holding the government accountable for negligence and inaction.

NEW: Ford government won’t commit to forest fire inquiry, as chiefs demand change. ‘Ontario is burning and there’s no end in sight,’ say First Nation leaders. But ‘we have a treaty partner that refuses to listen’ Latest from Jon Thompson in Northern Ontario. ricochet.media/indigenous/f...

"Healthcare is provincial, not federal." 1. The Canada Health Act is federal law. 2. The Canada Health Transfer is the single largest transfer of federal funds to the provinces. 3. Health is a responsibility shared between federal and provincial jurisdictions. 🔗s below.

Why do we call fossil gas "natural" gas? A new report from @climateintegrity.org “shines a light on a decades-long public relations campaign by oil and gas companies to re-brand natural gas as ‘clean energy’” after internal company research found that methane emissions was fueling climate change.

How Big Oil Spent Decades Selling the Myth of ‘Clean’ Natural Gas

A new report reveals oil and gas companies knew as early as the mid-1970s that methane fueled climate change while launching massive PR campaigns to promote natural gas as clean energy.

I will say, I have yet to see a single tough-on-crime Conservative complain about her previously being out on bail, her lenient sentence, the fact that she seems to be continually breaching the terms of her house arrest so she can "work" for Rebel "News," or this latest affront. Not. One. Peep.

Listen I will just say to any American politicians who are just watchimg their colleagues issue veiled threats at Canada for having wildfires in one of the largest boreal forests in the world you better not issue any "please buy or wine and visit our casino" notices

I’m trying to spread the word about using the PurpleAir map so that friends can check more accurate local AQHI info with all the wildfire smoke. I feel like a conspiracy theorist trying to explain that the typical weather data isn’t accurate, trust this thing in a person’s back yard for the truth.

Real-Time Interactive Map by PurpleAir

Watch: With two minute updates, PurpleAir sensors are small, easy to install and require only power and WiFi.

I was born and raised in Northern Ontario and I am absolutely boiling with rage at the ways in which people elsewhere are talking about the forest fires there as though this is a common occurrence. The air thick with smoke for kilometers, entire communities wiped out - this shit is not normal.

Can everyone enjoy a good life without destroying the planet? Recent research on “consumption corridors” suggests we can — and a small Portuguese city is beginning to find the way through. My latest for @newscientist magazine, reported from Guimarães. www.newscientist.com/article/2532...

I met Greg at a party and bent his ear about air pollution to the extent he went home and made this AMAZING resource. This is why people shouldn't talk to meet in public

I made an animation which shows the effects of air pollution on pedestrians waiting to cross the road, along with what can be done to reduce its harmful effects: stepback.gregdev.com Thank you to @ianwalker.bsky.social for the inspiration for doing so during a conversation a couple of weeks' back!
