Trans men aren’t invisible. We’re oppressed, and the oppression is erased, often with greater ease, and to their benefit. Our erasure benefits them I think in a similar way that the hyper-demonization of trans women does. It is much more convenient for them to silently suffocate us.
In the fine print of every bathroom bill, you’d discover that there’s often a nasty loophole where they regulate trans men out of both men AND women’s bathrooms. Because women don’t want us in their bathrooms either.
All trans bills affect all trans people and it’s good to remember this. The detransition shit tends to be more targeted toward AFAB trans people the same way other bills are more targeted toward trans women and femmes but they ALL affect ALL of us. And trans kids most of all.
Anyway, I just share this because I think when people turn a blind eye to trans men and mascs in their activism, we allow more of this stuff to get pushed under the rug — seen as less important or imperative than sports bills and bathroom bills (which just get more publicity).
This movement works daily and tirelessly to wipe trans people out of existence. They call themselves gender criticals, TERFs, “concerned parents”, you know the drill. I keep a very close eye on them and I follow what they do. I listen to the detransition speeches and court testimonies.
They’re more successful at passing these laws when they platform the AFAB detransitioners because they use these people as a show of the HORRORS and MASS MEDICAL MUTILATION of young, stupid and impressionable girls (ie: trans boys, adult ass trans men too).
Well, being fully transparent, trans kids are their biggest targets with a lot of the court stuff, laws and whatnot. Trans kids of all kinds. A lot of the detransition rhetoric tends to be aimed more heavily at men/mascs and trans boys. Just from what I’ve seen and experienced.
Despite belief to the contrary, we’re actually not invisible. Physically and literally. But also. I’ve sat for 12 hours in court for a trans bill here in Colorado & I can tell you that a large and very significant portion of the anti-trans rhetoric actively involves trans men and mascs just as much!
The reason why this invisibility/erasure/whatever is so violent (in my opinion) is because the people we are most visible to are, in fact, the people who want to destroy us the most. The violence and oppression itself is the thing that gets erased and, uh… invisibilized? I guess you could say.
I try to have patience with folks because I think most people generally misunderstand what we mean when we talk about the “invisibility” of trans men and mascs. “Erasure” is probably the better term when you truly examine it. We are VERY visible to TERFs and the alt right in particular.

I want that money to pay for free lunches and playgrounds and parental leave. I don't have kids, but I still vote like I'm deciding their future, because I am.
