i don't have the energy to make a nicer promo image but hey my #playdate games are on sale in catalog! for the next couple weeks: rowbot rally is $12, HEXA and labsylle are $5, and a whole bunch of other stuff is just $3. check out what's available: play.date/games/studio...

Photo of the Playdate store page showing my games — Labsylle, Cloudburst, Mission LunaTrix, Traffic Jam, Bona Fido, RowBot Rally, HEXA, and First in... Line?. A few of them are blocked out because they're not on sale. But you should go buy the stuff that is.

The #playdate community wouldn't be where it is today without Xania's tireless efforts to spotlight devs, games and community projects since the early days, with so many initiatives including of course Uncrank'd magazine. A true icon 🙏

Hello, @play.date community. Today’s special Substack post contains several major announcements regarding Uncrank’d. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read it. uncrankdpdzine.substack.com/p/a-major-an...

In the simplest terms I wish folk embraced a game being out of step with modern trends and tropes not as something to be fixed but approached with curiosity. That, collectively, games has so little interest in its past, let alone preservation, is part of why it's so malnourished as an art form

The idea of another human performing your lines is really helpful: Too much text? Too demanding? Could it be split between characters? Could we record in bursts for a longer time? Can we offer vocal training? Is this necessary for the game? The answer is creativity, not feeding it into a machine.

Arc Raiders devs Embark insist that using genAI for voice lines was necessary, as "actors would just go crazy if they had to read all of that" https://bit.ly/3UASIrI

CA Props 40, 41, and 42 are in conflict with each other, the latter two attempting to cancel out the first. Like many California ballot initiatives, 41 and 42 exist to confuse voters and they are succeeding. These conflicts should be worked out by the legislature and judiciary, not the electorate.

thinking about Patrick Stewart and Tim Curry and Dolly Parton and Catherine O’Hara and how many of the tributes shared after they died translate to something like “their art made me feel like I wasn’t alone in the world” it is hard to think of a better way to spend a life than that

3 months later, I have reviewed 17 additional video game publishing agreements. 16 had explicit no Gen-AI clauses, and 1 didn't mention it. All had standard IP reps & warranties which would make Gen-AI use an arguable breach regardless. But Tim Sweeney still wants you to think everyone is using it

What if I told you that all of the Publishing Agreements I have reviewed in the last 6 months (several dozen) included a no gen AI provision, wherein the use of gen AI in development is a material breach, but companies like Epic and EA are still trying to convince us the industry is cool with it

I'm really fucking devastated right now so instead here's the picture Patrick Stewart posted nearly 13 years ago to the day with the caption "happy halloween" of him dressed as a giant lobster in a bathtub.
