Sadly, that seems unlikely. It's all become a self-sustaining circle with a whole industry of specialists to turn your proposal into "the way the funding committee will like it". 🙄

We have applied for two UK Government Framework things over the last few months. Now that everything is in on the second, I idly decided to check the total word count. We’ve written 26,373 words about ourselves and our projects. Feels like a lot. But hey, Ask Me Anything now, I have it written.

Found Snecklifter in our local Waitrose here in Sussex. Thought that was weird, as Jennings had been closed by Carlsberg Marstons… But it’s back! Under independent family ownership since last year. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
OK, since this thread has blown up a bit, I think it's worth clarifying in a new thread to what extent the 'GenAI is asbestos for the mind' analogy might hold up, and where it breaks down (as even useful analogies always do): 1/n
We are soon going to have to come to grips with the fact that this shit is asbestos for the mind
My heart sinks every time the weekend radio mentions that there is F1 coming up later. It’s boring enough to watch, never mind as a radio experience.

One of the things we’re confirming about Anthropic as a culture is that they are in no way equipped to be working on the technology they have.
Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”
@andrewhickey.500songs.com can’t reply on your post, but funnily enough I have a similar theory my friend Sam wrote about recently in his long piece on greatest hits albums - loudandquiet.substack.com/p/bring-back...
I mean, on the bright side it’s just an old-school double-counting on a spreadsheet issue, rather than a new-fangled AI slop issue.
It’s the 8th October. We don’t need the Halloween decorations up yet, thanks.
This does in fact seem obvious to everyone apart from the people who came up with the policy.
I'm sorry if this is obvious but the Tory proposal to exempt family homes completely from IHT will lead to 1] pensioners buying the biggest houses they possibly can 2] pensioners refusing to downsize which can only be bad news for younger families trying to buy family homes
I mean, there’s a signal if anyone’s collecting…

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”
"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.
A proper skewering, but with pity in the eyes of the skewer-holder. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I love that Ross is the only person called Ross in #thetraitors yet everyone only ever calls him ‘Ross Kemp’.
I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
