Healey's just gone into No 10. If he's in as Chancellor I can live with that - unlike Mahmood, he's actually served in the Treasury and I reckon he knows that there is some relationship between growth and attracting the world's best and brightest.

This is very disappointing. Such an important and undervalued brief which was for years held by a succession of uninterested itinerants. A prisons minister who genuinely cared and who was starting to see results.

A domestic AI industry built on an American backbone is ultimately offshoring UK productive capacity to the US. Meanwhile, huge societal risks are just being glossed over. All the while we are panic regulating social media. Needs a reset.

Blaming net zero for Starmer's unpopularity is such a catastrophic misdiagnosis of why people hated him, not to mention a guaranteed route to losing seats to the Greens.

If true, we get 3 things. None good. 1. The direct negative growth/fiscal impacts of cutting immigration. 2. A Chancellor who prioritises their own personal/ideological obsessions over the UK economy. 3. A PM who through myopia or weakness chooses 1 and 2.

So much guff spouted about Starmer’s legacy. His legacy is that Clive Myrie gave an interview going ‘I am relieved I didn’t have kids’ and that millions of people in this country now feel unsafe.

I am devastated that the EHRC's Code of Practice will come into force on 5 August. I know this is a deeply difficult moment for the trans community, and I share the widespread concern that the Code is both unworkable and harmful.

In May we said Nigel Farage probably didn't owe tax on his £5m gift. The Guardian now reports the gift followed talks where Farage said he'd need £5m to return to frontline politics. *If* that's right, we think there's a high risk of a £3m tax bill - payable by Reform.

Reservations about our new glorious Leader's ability to make tough calls aside: man is it refreshing that Andy actually gives a shit about the Labour Party. His tributes to Blunkett, Beckett and Kinnock are so clearly heartfelt.

65 per cent of Britons are owner-occupiers. General elections are won in the Midlands. Most people have a middle class occupation. The United Kingdom's comparative advantage is in services. These aren't facts that Philip Gould invented in order to make Labour feel sad.

Ed Miliband has qualifications, knowledge, a political economy that serves the people and the planet. He has substantial government experience. He would be a brilliant Labour Chancellor.
