"The Dead Man's Empire", sequel to the award-winning "The Last Blade Priest", is out now from Angry Robot. Author of several novels, and the short story collection "The Anechoic Chamber & other weird tales" (Salt). He/him.

One curious thing about becoming houseplant people (as we have since ~2022 or so) is you starting noticing and identifying plants in other locations; this is weirdly disorienting when that "other location" is recordings of the past. It feels like an anachronism. Hard to express.

THE DEEP AND THE DROWNED is out this week. "Outstandingly swashbuckling, outrageously gripping and out-of-this-world brilliant" Monsters, pirates, empire, and magic. Order now, have fun, spread the word if you know people who like cool things 🏴‍☠️ geni.us/TDATDcovrev

One thing I never did was a post-mortem of Sir. Perhaps this is as good a time and place as any to talk about some of that. It started in 2010 when Channel 4 had some money to spend on making educational games. For some reason they asked me. ->thread

In surprising computer game news: Sir, You Are Being Hunted finally made it to console, just fourteen years after release on PC. It's out now on Switch, PS5, and Xbox. (And Steam and GoG, of course.)

I have only now, belatedly, realised that my "Fantasy: a Short History" has been shortlisted for a 2026 Mythopoeic Award. The winner will be announced at Mythcon 54, in Weatherford OK, this Sunday. I am hugely honoured and delighted and feel stupid for not realising earlier.

Shortlist for the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award in Myth and Fantasy Studies

Art and Enchantment: How Wonder Works, Patrick Curry, (Routledge 2023)
Enheduanna: The Complete Poems of the World’s First Author, Sophus Helle, ed. (Yale University Press)
Fantasy: A Short History, Adam Roberts (Bloomsbury Academic)
The Archetype of the Dying and Rising God in World Mythology, Paul R. Rovang (Lexington)
Speculative Poetry and the Modern Alliterative Revival: A Critical Anthology, Dennis Wilson Wise, ed. (Fairleigh Dickinson University Press)

Hard to believe, I know, but there are two (or even two-and-one-ninth) ways to get your hands on "The Anechoic Chamber and other weird tales", my collection of uncanny stories. In the UK, @saltpublishing.com is offering 20% of all its books until 31 July: bsky.app/profile/salt... 1/3
