Working on a new piece; thinking about star thistles, how in the western US they are an invasive and noxious weed that readily takes over land that has been disturbed and degraded. or something.

A pencil sketch of two women embracing, surrounded by star thistles. One woman has star thistle spines protruding from her body and pressing against the skin of the other woman attempting to hold her close.

Before the Labyrinth, there was Diane. Hunter and hunted. Neither mortal. Condemned to replay the same scene forever. A world where the cycle has no moral. Only a rhythm. Diane - 2013

A circular medallion painting in graphite and gold leaf
depicts a young archer, quiver on her back and bow at her side,
leaning tenderly toward a white deer.
Their faces almost touch: hunter and hunted
in a gesture closer to recognition than pursuit.

The ornate gold frame surrounding the medallion
shows the same deer in motion, mid-leap,
woven into foliage, arrows, and flowering vines.
A second figure watches from the upper right corner,
partially obscured.

Small blue flowers and a gilded emblem
are scattered across the composition.
The palette moves from deep black borders
to silvered grays at the center,
with touches of pale blue and warm gold throughout.
